Thread: Space Mining bugged?
I just got into space mining, got all the stuff I need and read a guide that said to just hit the asteroids a few times and chunks will brake off. Shoot the chunks till they get smaller and smaller and eventually go into your cargo hold.
Well I head into space and find one of the orange asteroids over Corellia. I get close enough to it, I assign the mining laser to a joystick button and start to work. Now I see what appear to be chunks of the asteroid flying off. But they aren't just braking off they are flying away from it so fast I can barely see it, and they don't stay near it, they just disappear. I don't know what to do. I know there is a bug in space right now where people are seeing odd, eratic movement on things and such, perhaps this is part of that bug?
PS: Devs if you happen to browse this thread, PLEASE fix the forums to work with Firefox again. It's supremely annoying to have to find and load up IE every time I want to come to this forum. I cant even submit a post now with Firefox.

Mining works perfect for me, now the first chunks are like half the size of the asteroid, so if they are tiny puny chunks it's just graphics and you can't bring em in. Make sure you really use the mining laser and not the tractor beam, you can't mine with the tractor beam, just the lasers.
When the chunk brakes loose, it moves in around 300-400 i believe, anyway you should be able to *target* it like a ship.
And to fix the firefox issue, go into "my profile" and search for an option that says "Enable WYSWYG editor" and make it say "No" to fix the FireFox issue

There is no "my profile" in Firefox 1.0.4. Perhaps the old Mozilla suite. Definitely not Firefox. Unless it's nested in some other place than OPTIONS, but that's all that is there. So it's still borked for posting here.

No, not in Firefox, in the forums. Right below and to the far left of the raging wookiee, it should have your user name : Logout My Profile Dashboard Help
Click on that My Profile, and there's a setting for the forum that you have to change.
I also use Firefox (v 1.03), and the forums work fine as long as the WYSIWYG editor is turned off.
Each asteroid only spawns so many chunks you can mine. After this you have to repeatedly hit the thing with a mining laser untill it disappears and respawns. After this the asteroid is ready to spawn the mining chucks again. Hope this helps.
only fire at the asteriod that got the blue box around it.
have you target in the middle of it and fire away.
at a time a small chunk will fly out with a blue box around it.
fire away on that to and it will break again.
