check your key bindings while in space to make sure you didn't accidentally overwrite the booster key binding, (hit {ctrl}-o, then go to the controls tab, hit the keymap button, then the "ship" tab on the keymapper, should have boosters set to b, if it still doesn't work, also make sure that you are not in chat mode, if you get a bunch of bs in your chatbar, hit enter to switch back to command mode, also if none of this works try rebinding boosters to another key.
