Thread: Took down the ISD last night... what a rush

A friend and I were buzzing around Deep Space getting some FP last night when we decided to take a run at the ISD. He was flying his Advanced X-Wing and I was in a Grievous Starfighter. We took it down in probably less than 10 minutes.

I know a lot of people solo it and it's nothing really special, but it was a heck of a rush blowing that thing to tiny bits. The crisscrossing turret fire was insane!

Yeah its a good time taking out the ISD's. And it never gets old. Its extremely easy to pop the ISD's using an Awing, Xwing, Grevious or JSF. If you really want an adrenaline rush use a heavier ship with a larger hitbox like a krayt. Good 'white knuckled' times. I'd love to try it with a YT or Nova but the MP ships are sadly beyond useless in serious firefights and arent nimble at all so thats not really an option unfortunately.

Meh... who needs armour anyways Takes too much mass
Quite fun doing that thing in a vaksai. Rarely hits if you jiggle around a bit. Just dont drive 50 meters above the deck in a straight line or stand still... almost took me out that way. I got quite mad though once... 30% left of bridge.. then some IMP Overt spawns riiiight by the engines and jumps me on my way out... Suddenly my ship went boom. Quite easy to solo when you don't have to worry about overts with missiles... Best part is when it blows up It slowly cracks up in huge bits. Ahhh what a sight!
For some wierd reason it never lags when you go in.... its when you are about 50meters from the target and when you turn out! now THAT's lag..

I used to always look for ways to fit armor onto my ship, but lately it's just become too obvious that 9 times out of 10, if something is getting through your shields, it won't be long till it's through your armor as well, unless you've got some mega crazy armor on board. I use it on my Nova to back up my almost 3k power shields (armor is similar, I believe), so it can take a pretty good beating. But I don't use it on fighters anymore except in rare circumstances where I know beforehand it will be helpful (like lower tier missions that have gunboats on them, as a precaution if I can't get away before my shields fail).

Other than that, it's pretty much just extra mass that can be used on more important things. Like guns and engines

I did it recently for the first time in my B-Wing and I gotta say, I found it everything but a rush, I found it pretty lackluster. The turrets were too small, I had to sneak my way in from a blindspot or whatever and get practically point-blank to the turret and then I'd blow it. I want long lines of big turrets that I can strafe, now THAT'd be fun.

I just went back today solo in my B-Wing to give it a go. Loaded her up with a 117.5 speed engine, 30 speed booster with 2k power, two 3600 max guns, a 3k max, and a 1.2k max, and 2000 str shields (no armor). I had a MK2 spacebomb launcher and a MK4 proton launcher on board and loaded, but didn't use em.

What I did was hit full speed across the zone with the #1 shield targeted and the S-Foils closed. Once I was within 1k of the target I rolled the S-Foils open and let her rip. Both shield towers went down on the first pass, circled right around (took almost 3 kilometers to turn the damned thing around at full throttle at about 1300 speed), wiped the engine, made another loop and wiped the reactor. Took three strafing runs to knock out the bridge (first was spent trying to figure out exactly where the hitpoint was so I could hit it with all 4 guns), and down she goes. Used shield shunt maybe 3 times. Total assault lasted about five minutes.

Planning to take a trip to Kessel and try out these tactics on the Corvette. Was a blast roaring past the ISD with almost 100 guns crisscrossing fire all over the place like crazy. Good thing it's such a lousy shot, because 4 or 5 shots can really wipe your shield out, and if you don't have armor you're bound to lose a few components

My weapon barely uses capacitor power. So I just use shield shunt 4 when i go low Saved me out of a LOT of hard situations. My gun can work with a 200 energy cap Doesn't use energy what so ever.

yeh but i wish they would fix the Freedom station so i could do the same. BAH its a pain to land reload missiles take off blow up subsystems land reload fly n blow up subsystems ect....

the sooner they fix SPACE issues other then saying "HEY TEAM"(slurps esspresso) "lets all make corvettes pilotable" (DEV team drops cups of coffie all over buglist paperwork woops) "YAHHHHH this would be awsome for fan fest YAY" (throws damp paper in bin) "lest work over night and not go to sleep untill we make a video of a Vetty Hijacking" (walks outta room, hours later trashman emptys the wastepaper bin blah blah...)

no wonder we get no bleeding fixes

Actually I found freedom station was an ok solo (well, I died every run but that's probably just me). If you are landing every run just load heavier blasters and let it kill you. You should be able to take out each part in one run, maybe two if your aim is bad. Just repair at the station and go again. Plus you save alot of money not using spacebombs.

Screenshots in link in signature. Good times, wouldn't solo it again though since it turns off rebel spawning in DS. Now I would only do it in a fully RPed raid of several TIE wings.

I take my guild on IDS hunts in my YT-1300 about once a month, great fun in a POB ship. YT-1300 is not famous for it's ability to Dodge the 99 gun salute the ISD can dish out which makes it usefull to have an engineer on board to make repairs and put out fires. Crew of 5 on a POB ship can take down the ISD in about 20 min and is loads of fun.

Yeah i couldnt agree more. Its the number one advice i give new pilots with my shipwright toon. Once you have a decent shield armor is irrelevant (except on POB ships, they need all the help they can get the poor things). If its gonna knock yer ships down then its gonna rip thru armor as well. That mass is much better spent on things that matter.

CAUTION: The vette is quite a bit tougher then the ISD, amazingly as it seems its very true. POB ships cannot stand up to the vette or its dual gunboat guard dogs at all for very long. The only way this can be done safely is if the POB is tucked away in a cloud of friendly fighters that take the majority of the turret aggro. Its all about the size of yer hitbox and POB ships are the worst in this category. they just cant be missed when being shot at so you get pounded fast and hard.
