Okay, this is a bit of a shift from the current setup of JLS:
Right now, we have the main planets and their sectors of space, plus kessel, deep space, and soon Kashyyyk. These can be jumped to anywhere from anywhere, and really have no spatial sense to them at all. What I suggest, that I think would work really well to improve JLS is this:
1) We already have the hyperspace map, that shows where each system is in relation to eath other. Why not have a fringe of several sectors, around the outside and in the empty pockets, that are more mineral rich (when space mining comes out) but always pvp enabled? These would be areas beyond the control of any government or rebel force, and going there would always be dangerous. These would be rather desolate sectors, hence they are largely abandoned, but it wouldn't take a ton of content production to add them. I know I don't want to be space mining some roid, turn around, wave at the giant planet in the background of Naboo, and turn back to my mining. I don't want to feel like I am playing in a sandbox behind my mommy's house. I want to go into the farthest darkest coldest reaches of space, keep an eye out for anything that moves that is hotter than liquid methane, and find some good roids to make my fortune on, or pirates with full bellies who are hunting people like me.
2) Another way to add 'distance' is to add these as stacked hyperspace jumps. You can use the hyperdrive to pop around from endor to lok in no time, but make it so if you are in one 'beyond the rim' sector you can h to an adjacent one or the closest civilized one.

I'm liking idea 1 a whole lot! This and enterable spaceports would add so much more to the longevity of space sectors. I'm tired of people simply using their ships to 'Travel' around simply for the ground game.

I agree completely, JTL currently has no spatial sense...you put it best yourself "I don't want to feel like I am playing in a sandbox behind my mommy's house" lol, because that's exactly what I feel whenever I go into space. All of the sectors are the same as far as I'm concerned with the exception that they all have different backdrops.

The only downside I see... is that it will spread out the population in space even thinner.
But it's an excellent idea, otherwise.
Hopefully RotW will bring more people to space.
