OK I have over 200 faction in both Imperial and Rebel. HeHe
Anyways Im thinking about joining one. I wont say which and I was wondering has anyone that has joined a faction tried quiting it later. I hear it possible but I dont want to join then find out its bugged and Im stuck with it. Being a smuggler I feel That I should be on the side that makes me the most money and IF that changes I would like to change with it.

Also What benefits Do I get if I join as covert rather then Overt.

I haven't tried to quit, but I've been covert for a week now. When you join, you are automatically covert and have to request to be overt. The only difference is that, as overt, you can be attacked on sight and attack imperial overtPCs on sight.

Do you realize how different the galaxy would have turned out if but a single stormtrooper had shot at R2-D2? Ever?

I have a friend who is an Imperial, he states that yo uhave to choose to go Overt. Once Overt, yhouc an choose to become Covert again, but it takes 1 hour in game time to go back to Covert. (Or you could be killed by a player and that makes you go covert again)

I have a rebel covert on one server and a Imperial on another. I willpost what I have found on another site about this subject. But before I do I will tell you this. If you go Covert with either faction, and you Help a NPC in battle with a NPC you will get a TEF. I got one last night and thought this was a bug, but who knows. This is what I have went by and of course NOT MINE. I didnt write this. But I believe you can use this either way, rebel or empire.

There are two ways to serve the Rebellion. The first way is to declare your character as an overt member of the Rebel faction. Overt declared members of the faction are eligible to participate in PvP 24/7 anywhere. The life of an overt declared member of either the Rebel or Imperial factions is both hazardous and rewarding. The second way to serve the Rebellion is to join as a covert member. As a covert member, overt +PvP members of the opposite faction cannot attack you unless you do something to aid a fellow Rebel by healing him/her, etc. Doing beneficial acts for a overt Rebel will earn you a Temporary Enemy Flag. This will make you susceptable to attack by Imperial forces until your TEF wears off over time.

How do I go about joining the Rebel faction as an overt or covert member?

* You must converse with a Rebel NPC recruiter to join the Rebellion. The recruiter will give you options to join as either an overt or covert member. However, he will require you to have at least 200 faction points to join the cause. The recruiter is also the person to speak with regarding switching back and forth between overt and covert status. He offers goods and services that can be bought by spending Rebel faction points you have that are above the 200 point minimum. The recruiters will be one of your main contacts with the Rebellion

How do I increase/decrease my faction standing with the Rebellion and gain/loose faction points?

* You gain Rebel faction points by killing Imperials, completing missions from Rebel Mission Terminals, and completing missions for Rebel NPCs. Killing Imperials not only gains you rebel faction points, it also causes you to loose faction points with the Imperial faction. If you loose enough Imperial faction points, Imperial NPCs may become hostile to you.
* Missions from terminals are another way to get faction points. Coverts and non-Rebels will only be able to complete delivery and non-military destroy missions. Overts can take delivery missions to, but they can also take military destroy missions which coverts and neutrals cannot get. The quickest way I have found to get lots of faction fast is to do overt destroy missions that involve killing Imperial NPCs. This is because you will get a small amount of faction points for completing the mission, and lots-n-lots of faction points from all the Imperial forces you get to kill while on the destroy mission. Plus killing Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers is just good wholesome fun, and is a lot more exciting than delivering letters! Overts killing Imperial NPC townguards is also a good source of faction points, but these townguards are much more likely to be aided by PC and NPC Imps that wander by. Coverts can also get missions to destroy Imperial NPCs once they build up a high Rebel faction and/or low Imperial faction.
* Missions from Rebel NPCs are another source of faction point. If you converse with Rebel NPCs, you can sometimes get missions from them.
* There are two ways to decrease your number of rebel faction points. First, you will loose Rebel faction points if you die at the hands of an Imperial. Second, you can "spend" rebel faction points to get rewards from a Rebel Recruiter, which reduces your faction point total by the amount of faction points you spend.

What good are faction points anyway?
You can "buy" things with the faction points you accumulate. You can check how many faction points you have by opening the Cntrl-C character screen. Conversing with a Rebel Recruiter will allow you to "cash in" these faction points, but you have to maintain at least a 200 faction point positive balance, and you cannot spend yourself below that 200 point amount. Certain categories of perks rewards, such as Rebel NPC pets and weapons/armor, are only available to Overt faction members. Here are some of the available items.

* Schematics. Currently schematics are listed for several Droid types, including the R2, R3, R4, and R5 models.
* Training. You can trade in Faction Points for XP in 1 to 1 trade. This is supposed to work for experience in any skill.
* Uniforms *Note* Currently not available at this point in beta.
* Weapons and Armor. *Note* At the moment in beta, most of the weapons available are similar to those in the Tool Dispensers. I would not recommend using your faction points on weapons or armor that are available from the Tool Dispensers. Credits are much easier to get than faction points, so spend your faction points wisely. Rocket launchers are the only weapon that is unavailable through the Tool Dispenser, but they frequently drop off Stormtrooper NPCs.
* Rebel NPCs, which function as pets. Several types of Rebel Soldiers are available. See the beta manual for a list of pet commands and how to use pets. I have heard factional pets are still buggy at the moment, and they also may not be storable.
* Furniture is available in several different types. *Note* Currently I cannot figure out how to place these in homes, so you might just want to start with just one piece to test it for yourself before buying lots of it!

# The Devs has also stated that there are some territorial faction perks in development. These include the ability to place covert detectors that will cause a TEF on covert members of the enemy faction that approach them. The ability to place down “HQs” that act as spawners of NPCs for your side, provide faction recruiters, and provide mission terminals. Ability to place turrents that auto-attack TEF and overt enemies.

Where can I find Rebel Recruiters and Rebel Mission Terminals?
I have been working on a list of all such locations. I will be posting the list below in this same thread. This list is a work in progress, and would not be possible without the contributions of many fellow Rebels. Thanks to all of those who have contributed the valuable information that made the list possible! If you discover a previously unlisted Rebel recruiter, mission terminal, or facility, please post it to this thread so other players can also benefit from the information. If you are able, try to get a numerical location for it using the numbers seen in the bottom of your in-game radar, because that will help others locate it. As new locations are discovered, I will periodically update the list with a "fresh list" that I will post to this thread.

Misc. Tips

* Refresh the mission terminals until you find a destroy mission that is nearby. This will save you a lot of running time.
* Fellow rebels will appear as Purple dots on your radar. Factional enemies will appear as red dots on your radar, just like MOBs do. Sometimes Imperial NPCs may appear as yellow dots since the last patch. Pay particular attention to red dots and arrows on your radar when you are in town, because that often indicates the presence of Imperial players nearby.
* Currently Imperials NPCs from the military destroy missions that overts get from Rebel Mission terminals drop nice weapons, including rocket launchers. Imperial officer uniforms drop off those NPCs wearing them, and Stormtroopers drop Stormtrooper Armor. It has been stated by the Devs that the ST armor will stop dropping at some point in the future, and will only be available to Imperials.

I would like to take a moment to make a few personal comments to those interested in joining the Rebellion. First, welcome to the cause! The Rebellion is in need of good recruits. Second, please remember that we are the good guys. Seek and destroy the Imperial scum wherever you find them, but at the same time remember a few rules of common courtesy. It has become the unwritten code of behavior in beta 2 for +PvP faction members to refrain from attacking each other within cantinas, hotels, and hospitals where healing occurs. Likewise, it is considered very bad form to "camp" the corpse of a fallen enemy. If they are in a healing facility or coming to retrieve it.

I am not sure what happened to this thread. Originally, I had posted a followup post that listed the known rebel locations as of 4/15/03. Sadly, that information as well as several pages of follwup info has disappeared to the board monster. So, here is the list again.

All planets now have random spawn rebel bases. The rebel NPCs on these bases can give missions. Sometimes there are recruiters that also spawn as part of the base. These bases are generally not static spawns and will disappear over time. If you find a base outside town that persists in the same spot for several days, please let us know its location

Oh I must say this. If you choose a Covert. You will get destroy missions being covert(to what extent I dont know I have destryoed small installations, nothing big YET . And also you will get negitive faction for killing enemy npcs, that means if your a Rebel and you kill a Stormtrooper (I did last night) you get 15 positive faction points to Alliance and 24 negitive to Imperial(positive and negitive will vary). So you see if you do several missions you can be KOS quick. I have gotten off of several missions +390 to Alliance and -176 to Imperial. So once I hit -200 I am KOS to Imperials.
I am not saying which side to choose, but hell its fun, either way.

I also have ran and shot several Imperials, just for snoring, lol.
