He'p me! He'p me!

Was just reading JustG's JtL Dev Diary through Day 7. Strangely enough, I feel pretty much the same way the Devs do, except from the opposite side of the equation.

Tested stuff 'till I dropped many days - fortunately I telework so I was running JtL Beta on my desktop systemand working off my laptop - multitasking...boy did it burn me out at times. Everything was upstairs - the wife and our three Huskies were downstairs. I'd stagger down periodically for food and iced tea refills...must have tea...need to make more tea...where's tea? The Huskies greeted me as a long lost packmate, which is normal if either of usare away from them for more than 5 minutes. The Wife looked at my bloodshot eyes and disheveled too-long hair and said more than once, "Honey, it's a game. Give it a break."

Alas, she is not a gamer - bug never bit her or did and promptly died - dunno which. Anyway, I make it a habit not to punch deck too often or for too long for the sake of family harmony - but I have to build up an A and X-Wing with the new mass figures and get back up into the big black! Must test against Tier 4 and 5 NPCs!

I post absolutely dead flat wrong figures for the size of a space zone. My notes area jumble- the math is right but the figures are just God awfully off. Must take a break...2 AM...need sleep but must build a Tier 3 Reactor and swap it for the Tier 4 in the X...Down from the X and back up into the Yacht to do a build. Down from the Yacht, refit the X and head up...agh! no help - still handles like a tank even with 10k lower component mass! No change in speed?! Turn rates no better! Wha!!? My ship explodes against three Tier 3's in Dantooine...argh...

Sleep - dream of bulding ship chassis' and components.

That's the way it's been since my first day in Beta more or less.I'm glad it's over. Really. Another week and I'd have decomposed in situ, I swear.

I've been really happy and really angry with the Devs - Hell Week was..Hell. 8) After Hell Week they tell us they were testing the tweak limits...great...embarrassing because I got really upset and said as much. Ok, tactful retreat. Then JustG lets the Devs onto the boards - wow, nice people! What was I thinking!?

Then we get a week where the balance just feels right all over. Daily polls make a hard 180 - everyone is having fun. Then in the closing days, the mass changes go in. (see above where I'm testing the mass changes) Hard stuff. Jousting AI - beats Turreting AI, but I can barely turn fast enough to get a shot or two off. I start to get upset again but realize they're probably testing the limits again, so I post up polite concerns and let it go at that. SUre enough, just before Beta closes the boards report that they brought things back to sane levels. Yay.

I took JtL Beta seriously. I know I wasn't alone. I'm glad I was there.

Each player is going to have their own feeling about JtL Live. I think a lot of folks will like it. Some won't. That's life.

Now that Beta is over I'm in withdrawl. Not surprising. Fortunately, I have other things to keep me busy. Spectrasonics' new Stylus RMX should be here tomorrow so I can get lost in that for a day or two.

My JtL preorder should arrive Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully, I'll just load it up long enough to move some stuff from one of my Naboo houses into the Yacht. You know, the obligatory Krayt skull...my "furniture" Woolamander named "Zaphod"... my Rebel and Aurillian banners...Must stay away from Tyrena...or all is lost...!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN BROTHER!! While my real life went to hell as soon as I started playing SWG my live chars life went to hell when I got into beta . I had about 24 harvesters running when I got into beta by the time I managed to check up on them I was down to 20 and only 2-3 of them where running the rest where at like 10% with nice repair tags in access of 10k credits and NO power. I was broke having logged with about 150k and then paying off all (well some) of those harvesters left me with about 2k in the bank and no buffs so I could go make more . Finally sell an AV21 schem to a guildie for 150k go buy more buff packs (I buy them I dont make them) the buff foe an hour go pay more harvesters out of money again, ah screw it back to beta I wanna play with my longprob. WHAT! Spacebeta chars are all givin a yacht?!?! Create char on space beta spend endless hours trying to get my yacht to look right. OOPS!!!! All harvesters are smoking again. It was an endless cycle. I am DEFINATLY glad beta is over I can now go back to buff buy packs buff buy packs untill wednesday when my oh so preacious doc is going bye bye so I can master SW hopefully I will have at least 4 mill so I can survive untill my ship buisness gets going .

Dang! This is awesome! Thanks for all your hard work to make JTL the best it could be! This is exactly the kind of dedication every person should have hadto get an invite to get into Beta. I have just seen too many posts from so called Beta "playtesters" whining about how JTL sucked, it wasbuggy, etc. from people who obviously thought "Beta" meant 'Demo' or 'Special Reward'. You did yourself and fellow dedicated "real" playtesters proud! Thank you - you should get SIX stars!

just what i have been saying, sadly beta got flooded with brats who had preordered and were just griefing everyone with theyre 'OMFG! THS GAME SUXXORZ !!!1!!11ONEONE!!1!' DAMNIT KID! We are bug hunters, find a glitch, /bug it, and leave it in the devs hands. i was in beta for 2 weeks. and reported tons of bugs. (altho it seemed very few were taken care of. ) i did my part for the community. the only thing i didnt like about beta was some of the players. beta lacked the interdependancy of live. need an item, go to the frog. either spawn yourself an item, or get the skills to make it yourself. you could ask for help on any planet and folks would never reply. also, the people who didnt read the online manual. ohh how frequently did i hear 'HOW DO I CRAFT SHIPS?' or 'HOW COME I CAN ONLY CRAFT THE FIORST 4 SHIPS? IM A MASTER!' /sigh. oh how i wish there was a /kickgroin. so i can banish them to the groin kick void. MWAHAHAHA. but seriously, i read the manual cover to cover. and the folks who DID make the game worthwhile, were kalzakath, ICDed and Hairoz. possibly some others i can nae remember right now. but these people helped me oh so much getting into space and fighting. /tips hat. now i am in live once more. grounded... (for now ) i constantly find myself hammering at the space terminal in the starports trying to get at my ship, or searching forthe nearest frog for buffs. nowhere to be seen. dang. i am slowly re-learning the value of a credit. which should have been taught me as a young rodian. oh well. with 6 mil i guess i have enough lol. but seriously. i can see JTL being released now, and server will explode. BOOM style. and im most likly gonna wait a week or 2 before i take space seriously. because prices will be so overblown it will make my eyes bleed. :/. so im kinda looking forwards to space. and i hope i can see some of me spacebeta1 homies about.
