Thread: Can't hit my assigned targets--Ping problem?

So frustrating...had this problem on both Beta and now in JTL. I go up on my first mission (happened both in Imp and Free Trader missions), As you remember, it is a go through the waypoints mission, then you are attacked by 3 npc ships (black sun in one, commerce raiders in the other)
At this point it says I must take out the 3 ships to complete mission. I lock on a ship, and fire. The shields flare up (which in most games mean I'm hitting it) However no damage is shown on the ship readout, no matter how many times i hit it it does not blow up. In the meantime, the other 2 ships wipe me out (so they are not having trouble recognizing me). I have repeated this mission probably 7 times now, with no change..
I am on a satellite modem. It is very fast, but of course with a very slow ping..this has not been a problem in the ground game (which is why i stay with it sometimes) and I have a TK guy, and BH. Can't do pvp very well, but can handle the npc's.
Is there another answer..is it that the ping is so slow that the ship is gone when i shoot at it, or is there another answer. Saw the other thread about shooting at anothers target not working, but this obviously is not the problem here.
Desparate for answers!

i have the same problem. i use a cable modem and have low ping and no packet loss. it becomes very frustrating when you make continuous direct hits yet deal no damage. if anyone knows the problem/solution, plz help.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem! Not sure what my ping is so I'll have to check, but I'm on a DSL modem.

Makes sense, accept I can hit a target without using the reticle, get a sheild glow or blast from the hull and still not get any damage. This happens even on dissabled ships, with the reticle lined up dot-on-dot.
