I've just got the email about the free 75000 ingame credits (I only just got SWG the other day ... along with JTL).
How does the credits get alocated? Automatically? I have a character from a free trial a while back, but I want to ditch him and start again. Will the credits be given to him if I log on with him? If I delete him, are hte credits gone never to be seen again?
Questions? Damn ... and I only have a day or so to redeem them (expires 31 Jan).

Over the last week I created a bunch of new characters, across the different servers. Each one got the 75K credits, for whatever that is worth.

This is true but you can only get the free 75k credits on one character per account per galaxy.
If you delete a character that already got the 75k and create a new one You won't get another 75k.

I'm having a problem kinda related to this. I played the trial and bought the SWG and JTL about 2weeks ago. I entered my SWG cd-key, then I went to register the expansion but for some reason it was already active. Does the free month you get when you buy the game include a month of JTL? Or is this a bug and I get JTL permantly for free? (even though I did buy the box).

I take it you registered your SWG account over the trial account so that you could keep your same characters and stuff right?
You can check your account and make sure it has the full version of JTL and not some thing else like a trial version.
I woudn't be surprised that a free trial of JTL came with new purchases of SWG, but I haven't heard of it.
But what the heck, as long as your account is working I wouldn't worry about it.
Then if later you find JTL disabled you can always enter your full version code later.

75K is per character/server.
I also had the same thing with registering JTL after playing the trial. It said it was already registered. Anyway I still have the key available if it starts complaining.
