Thread: This is becoming rediculous...

The dev who designed this mission needs to be beat in the head.

Im currently on a mission, and just failed my 5th? Maybe its 6th, I don't even count anymore, doing it.

It basically starts off killing a Gunboat, General Brackon on something, an Imperial gone Rebel. It's pretty easy just annoying because the back lasers of the gunboat do about 400 damage per hit, and fire every half second . Thankfully he can't aim worth crap as long as you have speed (Woohoo for Engine Overload Three!) so taking him out doesn't wreck your ship.

The next few parts are basically pathetic and extremely easy, escort a friendly gunboat that gets attacked by X-Wings and A-Wings, then you help about 5-6 TIE's kill some rebels... now comes the annoying part.

They send you to blow up 5-6 X-Wings (Tier 3, they are easy) And then a Gunboat with 4 weapons, an insane amount of shields, and one heck of a pissed off pilot who read way to many "How to Aim" books. Im lucky to get a freaking HIT on this thing let alone one that its shields don't recover from instantly.

The problem with this mission is that it takes about 20 minutes to get to, and then two things happen: A) You get blown to bits in a matter of seconds, B) What I described above works the exact opposite and the Gunboat/ship is weak as heck, except for the lasers that is.

I got lucky once and ran into2 patrolling NPC Imperial Gunboats who gave it a run for its money, 1 gunship got blown up, and then it just ignored the otherone and flew around 5k towards me, I fired off a few shots at it, fled, and hid in a Repair Station's docking bay, which it flew right through the wall I was staring at then Hyperspaced out because I guess the time limit for the mission ran out... that time limit has go to go or atleast be extended to 5x longer than what it currently is.

Got lucky again, ran into the same patrolling NPC convey, actually killed the Gunboat after firing like mad at it and targetting its weapons when its shields were down... and the mission bugged because one of the NPC's killedone of theescort X-Wingsso it didn't register.

I'm currently stuck at 1 million EXP 3-3-2-3 and can't train because I need to complete the mission, which I can't do, I even took 2 people along with me on the last attempt and they blew upin the same amount of time I did, maybe even less, I have great equipment (could be better, but 50k mass on an Intercepter doesn't go very far) for my Tier, but this is rediculous, it would be nice if the devs gave us a warning or some kind of option so we didn't need to take a bloody raid group to finish a mission sometimes :/.

Well Tier 3 Missions are very long and difficult. Your gonna need more than a couple of extras if you want to complete this. Gunboats reguardless of Tier are nasty. They have 2-4 sets of weapons on their ship. First priority is to take out the weapons by targeting them. Then (always important) stay back at least 550m. This allows you to attack and not be shot at. Take out weapon number 2. Thats the back one. Then use missles, cause they are your friend. Having good equipment doesnt really mean anything when your going down in flames. Just take around 5-6 ppl with you and you should be fine if you all target the same ship and weapon componet.

you cant kite the gunboat. as soon you attack it it starts following you.

i used Bomber Strikes to take it out. since you dont have that skill i would suggest bringing some friends.

I would suggest strafing the gunboat, aiming for the engine. As soon as it is crippled, fly under the belly, rebel gunboats can't shoot downwards, and just blast it away. Or get a friend or two.

Hello inquisition.... easiest missions in the imperial pilot tree.

If your ship is well eqiuiped a gunboat should be too much trouble if you kill its reactor or engine. That said, if you can get BEHIND and UNDER the gunboat he is totally blind. Looks like your on your teir 3 exit mission. Try a Tie/bomber, that has a little more staying power in a pure slugfest with a gunboat.

Since your on bria, send Rapax a tell and i'll help you out with it.

This has got to be the Black Epsilon tier 3 exit mission. IT WAS AWFUL. The guns are EXTREMELY powerful on that thing. You are flying a tie bomber right? Cause without one you have no chance of solo'ng that beast. Getting help is the best solution to this mission because they can attack it while it chases you. I was die-hard tie interceptor through tier 3 and I stopped using it once into tier 4 and it had only 300 or so hit points in it. You know how many times you have to get blown up to go from 2000 hitpoints to 300? A LOT. Strafing that thing at high speed is really your only shot but without 2500 shields (which you can't mount on an interceptor) it's not going to happen...

You can solo anything if you're patient enough... Gunboats are simple if you remember to be no closer than 540m and no further that 560m... Take out the engines first, always fire at the rear so you don't waste time on the front shields... engine out it's a sitting duck... nothing to it... and yes they can follow you... in that case boost away till it gives up, and come back ... and if you're going after gunboats and having problems, then you need to be using shield shunt...

....you need to try this mission for yourself cause when I did it he never stopped chasing me. I went from one end of the zone to the other and he was HAULING @#$@. I could barely stay in front of him. I don't believe you can solo this mission unless you are in a Tie bomber. The Tie interceptor has at most 50k to work with and against a ship that turns and comes straight at you CONSTANTLY you cannot expose any weakness he has other than his front.

You cannot keep a safe distance from him unless you can fly backwards. Gunboats aren't hard to kill later in the game but in this mission, even with a Tie bomber it's a real challenge for an imperial player.

Well I've solo'd quite a bit... not everything in space since sometimes I'm in a hurry or already had a guildmate with me... It also mattered what I was flying and what components I had... pretty much RE'd stuff from the getgo... not to mention I was always running droid programs... But each is different I guess... Took me a few tries to learn the right way to solo the Corvette and the Star Destroyer, but if you're patient and take note I'm sure you can do it.

I haven't done this mission, but I've dealt with Gunboats a bunch of times. They can't shoot above them so what I usually do is target the weapons systems, and try to stay above the gunboat and hit it that way. So picture it like this when you're fllying at the gunboat you see it's top only, (so the gunboat is going horizontally, and you are coming vertically at it, instead of following it like you do most ships) and you're aiming at the weapons.

Once I cross it, I usually hit my boosters to try and turn around again to make another run at it. If you're lucky he'll go in a circle and you can just kind of turn so you stay on top of him. That's tough to do though, you almost always end up passing by him. this mission might be different, but I've had pretty good success with gunboats when I've tried this

Oh one other thing, those things tend to be slow so coming at it at a slower pace is probably a good thing. This is one of those things where you don't have to be right on top of him to kill him. In fact it probably is better if you're further out from him.

This sounds like an Imperial Inqusition mission.

Yes, you can solo this. It took me about 8-10 tries, but I did it.

There were some good writups about that mission about three months back. They were faily complete.

Don't you new kids know how to break aggro????

When something is chasing you, you hyperspace within the same reason. The chase stops. Agro is broken. You get to rest in peace. You get to decide on your approach vector.

The second thing that you NEED NEED NEED is Bomber Strike. It doesn't look great on paper, but it's the most powerful ability in the game.

Heh... I took the following boxes during tier 3: Droid commands first (engine overload 3, weapon overload 3, Cap to shield 3, cap overload 3 beat, IMHO, even using level 7 gear), then equipment, then bomberstrike and ships last.
