Two thumbs up!
It would be cool if you could apply a squadron decal to your ships too, but I don't know if they could code something like that.

sounds great, I'd love to have a squadron to fly around with, most of my guild seems to be afraid of space

I just started out last Friday, but I really like the space combat so far. I can see, however, how it might get a little tedious for some folks, and if you're going to be spending your time in tedious activity it might as well be for a significant reward like Jedi or something.
The Jump to Lightspeed expansion doesn't seem to be particularly well-integrated into the main game. They're really two seperate games, and I thinkI can understand some of the reasoning behind that. You don't want to force people to fly, becoming a pilot should be a choice that each person makes.Folks shouldbe ableto play either game independently however, I think the developers should be looking forways to encourage players to strap on a starfighter. Afterall, the plots of the movies are moved forward by events in space about as much as they are by events on the ground.
Just one idea might be the inclusion of coordinated strike missions such as we saw in Return of the Jedi. The Rebel ground forces had to knock out the 2nd Death Star's shields on Endor so the Rebel fleet could fly in and blast its reactor. Maybe they've got something like this planned for later, but it would be nice to see it on a smaller scale now.
I'm sure others can think of moreways to integrate the two games without including too much dependency.
ETA: Forgot the quote ^^

Fully support your idea. Many guilds have a few pilots here and there and most people don't want to leave their ground game guild to join one soley for Space. (Myself included)
It would be great to have the ability to setup space guilds as well. Mabye we can have the Squadron Guild Halls instanced on space stations.

I love this idea. I think it would go a long ways toward getting more people in space and maybe boost PVP as well. If a player doesn't want to leave his preexisting guild, many of which only have a fraction of regular pilots, his network of pilots suddenly becomes much harder to maintain. This would go a long way to remedy that.

The idea is promising, and could be quite useful. It would need to be rather flexible, though, to handle the types of situations players would try to use it for.
I am part of a 'Flight Wing' with somewhere around 90 members (and growing), though some are obviously more active than others. Inside of the Wing exist Squadrons, which Wing members create, recruit, and run themselves. A Squadron Commander sets up how many people to allow, how to organize the Squadron, and what will make the Squadron worth joining.
Ideally, when the Wing has a large event, individual Squadrons can fly together, making the dozens of pilots easier to coordinate. Also, having that Squadron means a first step when a pilot is looking for help on a mission, before asking the entire Wing.
Some in-game support for what we do would be of great help, as right now it is a lot of organizational responsiblity on the Wing CO, the Squadron COs, and their XOs just to keep members straight, let alone trying to provide communication, events, mutual support, and other content.

Now, a lot of guilds have inner-guild squadrons and I've heard of multi-guild squadrons, but neither have any real in game support. My idea is for the devs to create squadrons officially supported by basically making them space guilds, yet allowing you to be both in a guild and a squadron at the same time.
Thoughts?
Thoughts?

Ok; question for this.. would these officially recognized Guild Squadrons be available to the Privateers?
Can someone with say, a 85k Mass Dunelizard decked out with all high quality re'd components whose just a kick ass pilot, join their friends Rebel Aligned Squadron consiting mostly of X-Wings, Y-Wings, B-Wings, etc... so long as they are a member of the same Guild on the ground?
In other words... would Luke let Han join Rogue Squadron with the Falcon?

Well my idea of the squadron is to be like the guilds, so that the squadron leader and anyone he designates can let anyone into the squadron they want, even if they aren't part of the same ground guild.

I support this idea whole-heartedly. I've always wanted to be able to identify my squadron outside of the guild, but as it is, we're undeniably tied to the greater whole of the guild. To be able to seperate the two organizationally, yet keep them together infrastructurally (hope that makes some sense) would be really, really cool.
