Thread: Anyone remember this command from the XvT/XWA games?

Man, I loved those games. Some of the best times I've had with my friends were when we all got together for a Balance of Power LAN party. Anything they can do to make JtL more like X-WvT is alright in my book.

Yeah, I loved those commands. You could tell them to go home, cover your six, attack your target, etc. What would be nice is a Squadron Leader profession where you can have people in your group fly in formation (maybe make it a 'rubber band' type where if you are breaking away and using your joystick, you don't go into formation right away...when you release the joystick it might automatically 'rubber band' you back into formation. And everyone in formation would fly at the speed of the slowest person in the group, naturally. I was thinking those types of commands (attack my target) would fall under a squadron leader profession (maybe costing skill points?). The profession would need a good deal of fleshing out, but it could be useful.

I don't suppose the Squad Leader profession works in space does it?

Or, I think they could add some Squadron Leader commands at Tier 4 and/or Master in all the pilot trees if they wereto implement such a thing. Make the commands available to all pilots, but only usable by aSquadron (group) leader.

Of course, I don't know why we're suggesting things. As far as I can tell, the devs never implement our suggestions - or has that changed since '03?

Attack my target. basically hit a button, i think it was ctrl-a, and the target youwere looking at would be sent out to your flight group, wingman, whatever, and they would get a message saying attack this target. This would be a nice addition to add to JTL when your up flying in a group and someone yells on vent help me help me.. well what target is attacking them out of the 10 attackable ships? you can't just look at the radar and go oh, it's that one. but the person who just said help can then hit whatever button and send out the the targets info to everyone in the group... just a thought.. what do you guys think?

I think that you can set this up with a macro, but I can't remember. I have trouble finding folks to fly with so I don't have a real need for group oriented stuff like this. I am going to check this out tonight and post something if you don't have an answer by then.

Tried to set this up last night. Unfortunately, the only commands I could find are the target group member commands I guess I was wrong.

A command like the XvT/XWA game would be pretty cool. You could set up a macros to emulate this, but your wingman would still have to find you and have to guess at what your target is. For example, here are afew chatmacros I setup while looking for this stuff last night.

Macro1 (keymapped to 2):

/groupchatRed 2 pull in. I am taking heavy fire.

Macro2 (keymapped to shift+2)

/groupchat Roger that Red 2.Pulling into assist

I wrote and mapped macros like this to every number key. Of course the Red 1,2,3,etc. will have to be workedout before hand, but it's a lot faster than typing out all that stuff in the middle of a combat situation

How about a command to target the ship that is attacking your current target? Example: in an escort mission, you target the ship you're supposed to protect, hit a key, and you're now targeting a ship that is attacking the ship you're protecting. I remember this from X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Very helpful in escort situations. Lets you focus on your mission target's most immediate threat.

I'd also like to see the target information display your target's attitude relative to your own. So you can see their current maneuver. This first appeared in Tie Fighter.

Can you tell which games I'm an original fan of?

Also the "Target Mission Critical Craft" feature was nice. We should have that here so we can find those smugglers and whatnot we're supposed to protect.

I would definitely like to see something like this implemented. I devote most of my game time to running a squadron, and one thing that annoys me the most is that I need to lay out VERY detailed plans ahead of time, because there's no way for me to effectively give commands on the fly. To be able to send out my target to all my pilots would be invaluable, as would be formation flight (why did they take that out?). I also like the idea of making it a seperate profession, like a space-equivalent to Squad Leader. Would allow for those who truly are interested in leading to spend the time to get the profession, whereas those who are less interested (and in extent less adept), would be discouraged.

Thanks for trying Ken. Like you I had looked and wasnt' able to find anything. But I like your idea of setting up liittle macro's of "red 2 pull in". that's pretty cool.. 99.9% of the time everyone i fly with in my guild is on ventrillo with me and i just yell at them that way lol.

A squad leader type tree would be awesome. would make having that awesome on missions. also give a real literal meaning to the term "squad leader" lol. since i'm a SL for a squadwithinguild haha..

Heh, I haven't used my SL much, but what I used it for seemed to work ok. Granted that was about 5 or 6 months ago. . .
