Thread: Development of the Space Game: Is anything happening?
I've been playing around with the JTL, and I'm having quite a bit of fun with it. It is very simple to get into and I think the engine has a lot of potential.
What I'm worried about a few things, and it centers around this feeling I get that development of the space game is not on the "to do" list of the devs.
GCW
It is great that I have a bunch of missions to do as a rebel pilot. I'm worried that once i master rebel pilot, I won't have much more to do in terms of the GCW. In talking with others on my server and from my experiences, I don't notice any major PvP or even PvE battles in space with the two factions. Some of the most exciting scenes in Star Wars was with the major battles above planets involving fleets of Capital ships and bunches of star fighters. My feeling is those types of battles in the GCW are just as important as the ones that take place on land, so shouldn't we see at least some development towards that?
Life in Space
Shouldn't there be people living and functioning in space? On cap ships, space stations, or whatever, I feel that space's importance would be enhanced if people could advance through all aspects of the game while in space.
Its nice that the RotW game has added features like mining and the in-space quests, but I feel as if there should be some priorities set for space, and some real "in-concept" discussion about how to make space a more important part of the game.
Maybe its just me.

your worries are correct too

I just don't think enough people are interested in space. I know quite a few people that don't even have JTL.
I think giving JTL free with ROTW is there way of marketing it a bit. Hopefully we will see more people up there in time with all the new ships and missions.

I rarely see other players in space, let alone have pvp experiences. From what I hear, Kessel(pvp zone) is a ghost zone.

PVP is a little to overpowered at the moment well since always.
i mean all it takes to destroy another player is 2 direct hits from a heavly overcharged laser cannon. or a nice high dmg missile right up the rearend
At the time I was hoping it was temporary as I thought having a PVP zone for non-master pilots was a good thing. But it had to be done to stop the griefing going on. Having a PVE mission, especially the master missions, in a PVP zone was a very poor idea in the first place.
Do one mission in a B-17 with 8 other people on-liine and you would laugh at SWG's multiplayer ships.
Or how about a Spitefire? One flight in that and you would never want to fly an A-wing again.
And what about Lock-on? Kill a ground radar station in a A-10and then yank and bank to get that SAM off your 6 and you will be looking at JTL a whole new way.
And the Me 262 is the shnitz. Gotta really be good at controling both engines as not to burn them out and catch fire but man is it a blast to fly when you learn how. Anything in SWG can be jumped right into and dont require any type of skill to learn. Every ship is the same and has no detailed flight controls or operations.
Even ejecting in most flight sims is cool. Cant say that for JTL.
Of course the Flight Sims I play are very well thought out and researched and they show it.JTL justdosnt do it for me. Cant really say why . If it was a stand alone game it would be a major flop in my list of flight sims.

Nope, you folks aren't too jaded (or demanding)
They just got through the cycle of adding duty missions for each tier (tier5 being launched alongside rotw) This is the meat of the sandwich, something they had to get through and get out before they could work on adding garnishes.
All the while they have been fixing bugs (yeah adding new ones I know, but still fixing them)
As well as devoting time to fixing shipwright crafting, and adding new ships and craftables
When the dev team focuses on bugfixes people whine for content. When they add new content people whine for bugfixes. All this has been going on at the same time as a major revamp of the other half of the game! You really need to gain a sense or perspective here.
