Okay, I think I've had enough of going freelance. How do I switch sides, preferably to the rebels?

Grind some FPs, become rebel, talk to an Alliance trainer and your done!

I want to switch to Imperial Navy from Freelance (since I haven't advanced at all yet) and when I try to surrender the skill it says I can't manually surrender it and I have to talk to the trainer if I want to retire. I go to the trainer and he does not give me any options besides taking another mission. Also, do I need any Imperial faction to train in Imperial Navy Pilot? Thanks.

it tells you to talk to coordinator not trainer and gives option of getting a wp, get the wp

You mean Combatant? I know you have to be that to drop ground faction, but pilot? That doesn't sound right...

Especially since he/she is a freelancer and as that you don't even need to have a Ground faction. would be slightly unfair to require going on duty to drop it

I'm pretty sure you can also drop Imperial Pilot while on leave. I did not try and not going to.
