Im wanting to Ace all 9 squadrons, ending with Smugglers Alliance, Freelancer, but am uncertain about 1 thing. If I am rebel on the ground, may I join the empire in space?

I believe i saw this question already with only 1 answer, but I thought that his answer was more morally inclined, because HE didnt want to have rebels as imperial pilots.

I just dont want to have to drop Ace pilot, go to an imp, find out i cant, and have to leave the Rebellion ( I am a colonol and it took me 5 months to bring myself to actually do fp missions)

yep, only neutrals (in good standing with the empire) and imps can be imps in space. i had a friend who was reb who wanted to be an imp pilot. he dropped reb and tried it, but he still had -5000 imp standing. it wouldn't let him.

You most have at least +200 FP in the faction you wish to join inspace and must be either Neutral or Claimed in the same faction on the ground.
