Thread: Combat Takes Forever: How Can I Level Quickly?

I just made it to the 2nd-tier of the Rebel pilot profession - I forget which squadron I'm in (how do I check?). I started above Tatooine, though. I also just bought a Y-Wing, which I started using when I showed up for my 2nd-Tier missions at Yavin.

My problem is that combat is so slow now - meaning, it takes forever to kill the pirates (Tier 2 Hutt fighters) that I'm assigned in duty missions. Combat was much quicker using my Z-95 above Tatooine! I'm not complaining that my Y-Wing is slow, but rather that it takes forever to take down the enemies even when I'm banging away on their shields with accurate laser fire. Is the culprit the fact that I'm fighting Tier 2 enemies? The minor extra experience per ship doesn't compensate for the extra time taken to kill them.

My concern is that each Tier 2 skill box costs 60,000 experience points. At the rate I just finished a duty mission, it's going to literally take WEEKS to get to Tier 3! Am I doing something wrong? How can I improve my situation?

Your best bet is to first obtain and run droid commands, i stick with weapon overload , cap overload, engine overload, reactor overload, and cap shunt to shield, (appropriate to your level of course) , and thenhead to lok, nym's hovel.

There is a nice spawn of tier 3 ships whose name escapes me at the moment, that fly kimogilas and will get you over 1600 xp per kill. This is a very efficient way to level, and it works even better if you have a friend to level with, as you only need to hit them a few times to get full xp.

Also, if you having troubles with the Y-Wing when you dont have a turret gunner. First get a turret gunner

If that does not help much go back to you Z-95 and see if that works better.

The Y-Wing is a 2 seater and can only do its max damage with 2 people

i am in exactly the same situation on Ahazi and i have been there for a few days, i got my y-wing and wish the z-95 could hold more than 11k, the tier 3 kimogilas mentioned are easy targets but watch out cause i killed 2 in about a minute, and then had 2 more sneak up on me and got hit wit 2 missiles.. i had no rear shileds 1/4 rear amrmor and no booster.. so i was SOL.. seems like droids/buddies are the way to go. now if only there were freindly pilots on Ahazi. (not to say thier mean, just... preoccupied)

Get a bigger gun, and run overloads.

Personal advice, there's no rush. The trip to ace pilot is the most fun.

If you can find someone to help you in your missions, preferably someone in a more powerful ship, they can disable the ships engines and you can finish them off. You get full xp and so do they and I am sure you'll move up faster that way. If you are going to stay solo it's all about how much damage you can do per shot. Put the best weapon you can afford on it and grab some weapon overload programs for your droid. (usually on the bazaar under the misc tab, unprogrammed droid chips.

All the advice above is correct. One thing to consider as well is to upgrade your ship to the Y-wing Longprobe as soon as you can. At this point, youcan fire both weapons slots (maybe you didn't notice only one weapon is firing now?). Make sure to put bigger weapons and weapons capacitor in you new Longprobe. Personally, I never used programs until I hit Tier 4 and really don't think you have to have them unless you feel you need the extra punch. Also, the advice regarding getting someone to help is VERY important. Althought you can solo most Tier boxes you will find it much easier when you do it with someone at or above your own Tier level.

One thing I wanted to mention but forgot......

Head over to the "Pilots" forums under Professions. There are a lot of good tips and guides there that can be very valuable.

The Longprobe won't be available until you hit 3/X/X/X. As advised, overload programs are the way to go. And don't rush....the tier 4 boxes take 1,000,000 (that's 1 Million) XP EACH

Good luck!

If you have a friend with a multiplayer ship jump in one of the turrets. Get another turret gunner, get the pilot to jack in some Overload programs from the Operations Chairand head to Kessel. Tier 5's will melt under Overloaded LVL 10 guns and you'll be getting 6k-10k XPa pop...
