There doens't seem to be a whole lot of correlation between the mass of a component and it's functionality, at least when dealing with looted stuff. Personally I think this really causes problems for people who don't fly interceptors. It would be nice to see two tiers of systems per equipment level, bomber/multiplayer equipment and interceptor .Bomber equipmentshould be more capable in terms of power output, damage , hitpoints, etc. but (d'uh) be a much higher mass with the trade off being the abysmal handling characteristics of the craft in question. Interceptor equipment should be much lower mass, but consequently be less capable.
In case you hadn't guessed I fly a y-wing, but the weird thing is most of the best equipment in terms of power output, damage, etc that I have on the ship is also lower mas than the other equipment I have in the same tier. This really doesn't make much sense to me. There's no real reason to fly a bomber outside of personal ones. You get the drawbacks of a slower ship, but not much upside in terms of survivability, etc. Perhaps this changes as I can only use tier 7 stuff right now, but it hasn't so far.
