Thread: Nebula Flares and Ship Explosions--can they be turned off?

My computer is a mid-range system, with only 3/4 a gig of RAM. I can't upgrade it right now, so I have to stick with what I have.

It becomes very frustrating while flying to maneuver behind a ship, and have a Nebula appear in the background, fire it's little lightning strike, and lag my system for a second or two. This is usually enough to foil my aim. Also, sometimes when ships explode (especially close to me), it lags out my screen momentarily.

Does anyone know a way that I can minimize these graphical extravagances? I'd rather never see a Nebula. I've already turned the Nebula Density down to 0. I know that I have "Nebula Blast"...but I've never used it, and don't plan on using it anytime soon--I'd rather just not see Nebulas anywhere and be able to constantly aim at someone rather than waiting to maneuver the nebula behind me.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

lower your bloom effect and particle effects in the options menu (cntrl + o). There is no way to turn them off but with them really low, the graphic intensity will be low enough to where you shouldn't have a problem. Also, for better performance turn off your cockpit and if you really, really need it... sound will actually lag you as well. I can't turn off sound when i fly though i need the lasers and the booms.

Isn't there a setting for nebula in the options? Just slide it right down to the left.

Hmm...I'll try the particle bloom and effects settings. Haven't toyed with them yet.

There is a nebula setting on the options...but it's for Nebula density. I've already turned it as low as it can possibly go. Perhaps I can turn down some other graphics settings too--had to turn one of them back on to do the Corvette...but it's probably hurting my card more than my computer can comfortably handle.

Anyone else have tips? Any Devs have a magical button that will take away the nebula's lightning bolt?
