A couple of nights ago, a friend andI were flying around inspecting several Freighters in the area just for fun. We came across one that was carrying "Military Cargo", one that was carrying "Alchohol", and a third, carrying something else I can't recall at the moment. When docking with the ship, we got a confirmation message saying that we retrieved the "Military Cargo", "Alchohol", etc., but received nothing in our inventory or datapad.

Do we have any confirmation from the Devs as to how this is intended? Are we, by coincidence, docking with somebody else's "mission" freighters, or are we supposed to actually be getting something from the successful dock? The latter would obviously mean that it is bugged, but would be very cool if we were able to get this in the future. If it is not intended or not implemented, it needs to be made clear, or at least not give us a confirmed successful Inspection and Dock as system messages.

I think I read somewhere that future intentions are that there will be loot retrievable by docking with ships and hijacking their cargo.

As of now, I get a lot of missions where I have to inspect and retrieve cargo from ships.

Every single time, after I am done docking, it says that I have successfully retrieved the cargo, but there is nothing in my pack.

I hope that you can eventually get loot and stuff that way..

I love the docking sequence.. I think it's cool...

Can you be attacked during this docking sequence though????

A good example of a Freighter that SHOULD give you loot is in Endor surrounded by Tier 4 Pirates. You kill all the Pirates and a Pirate Spy, and then the only thing left there is a Pirate Freighter of some sort that does NOTHING. I can understand Freighters flying around non-aggro ships or right next to the Space Stations not giving you anything, but the example above should yield some reward in my opinion, even if it is not given every time.

I do not believe you ever get anything in your inventory from a successful scan. You probably did a scan against a mission NPC craft. I have run accross a mission craft that you actually needed to /dock with and some other player was able to successfully /dock with the same ship as my mission identified.

So there does seem to be some generic mission ships that anyone can inspect or doc.

Last night I inspected and docked with a ship that I KNOW was a static spawn, and not a mission ship. It was a Tier 3 Civilian Shuttle carrying a Weapons Shipment...same ol' story though, nothing in the Inventory.
