Allright Here goes the 2nd attempt to post this.. last time I got it all typed up Lithium crapped out when I submitted it.. grrrrr

This message describes a Concept for Persistant, yet Non-Static Content, that is not mission based.

The Concept Calls for a 'Task Force' Which is a group of NPC Starships That travel from Sector to Sector as any PC can following a set of Rules and Objectives. I realize the chance of 100% of this posts content getting published is about nonexistat, but I am hoping to open discussion on this 'sort' of content so that hopefully future updates may inculed task forces of some nature or another.

One Very Grand Example of an NPC Task force would be an ISD Task Force, which would include (of course) an ISD, and several Gunships, and Fighter Squadrons for support.

Its Objectives would be to protect Imperial Commerce, by seeking out and destroying Rebel Starships, and Neutral Starships of an agressive and military nature.

The Rules set upon it would be as follows.

1. To make it not unfair to low-level Pilots, it will not enter Sectors that are well under teh control of the Imperial Navy, Such as Naboo, Corellia, and Tattooine (newbie sectors).

2. To not make it unfair to anyone who happens to be at the Hyper point, the Fighters and Gunships will not deploy from the ISD until a full minute has passed, plenty of time to get out of the way. Also the ISD itself will not fire on any ship until the ISD is fired upon by that ship.(which will have te added benefit of reducing the lag that would go with an ISD.)

3. Once the ISD Task force arrives in a Sector it sets a course for the opposite side of the sector, once it reaches that point it recalls the gunships/fighters into the ISD Hangar bay (IE they Despawn) and the ISD Enters hyperspace to another random sector.

4. While Travelling through the sector the fighters/gunships engage any ships that meet teh objectives criteria.

5. If the ISD itself comes under attack, it opens fire on its attackers, and the Fighters/Gunships will disengage from any target not in the immediate vicinity of the ISD. Effectively anyone that dares attack teh mothership gets blasted by everything.

6. One minute after any Gunship or fighter Squadron is destroyed another is deployed to replace it until the ISD is destroyed.

7. If the ISD Loses its shield Towers, it begins a 2 minute countdown, during which the gunships and fighters progressivly despawn(enter the Hangar) and at the end of which the ISD enters hyperspace to another sector.

8. The ISD will always stay in a sector for at least 10 minutes as its Hyperdrive recharges.

9. The ISD will automatically Repair some of its damage each time it exits hyperspace.


Obviosly this Example would cause a great Deal of Lag for whichever sector the ISD is in, so that specific example is currently unfeasable unless a few Lag Fixes are implemented. Such as:

1. Anyone who has flown in Deep Space knows that when the ISD is shooting at anything, empty space turns into molasses. This is because The draw Distance for the ISD hundreds of blaster bolts covers the Entire Sector 15k away you can see the massess of energy beams flowing toward some hapless rebel NPC B-wing. If the Draw Distance on these were reduced to a reasonable distance only those fighting the ISD would be effected.

2. Double the minimum and maximum Coordinates in all three Axis (X, Y, and Z) in all space sectors, and spread the obects in the sector out, so that the only objects in space that are drawn are the ones you are close enough to interact with. This could also increase lag due to the increased load on teh servers so..

3. Upgrade Space Sector Hardware.. nuff said.

4. Give players an option to turn down/off the Lightning.. I need not say which lightning, where, or why.. everyone knows of what I am speaking. Its cool and all, but really really laggy.


Another Less grand Example of an 'NPC Task Force' would be a Rebel Supply Convoy and Corvette escorts whos objective ould be to visit Rebel space platforms in different sectors to resupply them.

As a Bi-product of having these Task Forces, Static NPS could now give Missions based on them. IE "The ISD 'Avenger' Task force is Really hampering our operations, find it and make it go away."

Again would like to Reiterate that I do not expect this to hit live anytime within my characters lifespan, I'm too familiar with the way whomever manages the dev team works(been waiting over two years to be able to smuggle after all). Hopefully though this will Open players and developers viewpoints on future JTL Content.

Damn nice idea and very Star Wars-ish. To take it a step farther, maybe have the fact that the task forces are there affect other things and such. Give us a reason to fight over stuff and all.

Yeah something like that, but with the adition that if they start getting kiled too muh in Theed they may run away to Keren.

Also it wouldn't require direct control from a CSR once coded so it wouldn't have to be a live event, it could just happen anytime.

This is a great idea and whatnot. I'd pay double what I'm paying now for SWG if they'd add content like this.

Maybe the ISDs can only be engaged by overts. That would be enough to keep noobs from stumbling upon them. They should be in Naboo, Tat, and Dant space as to have consistency with the sky view from the ground. If only overts could engage them, it would easily boost PvP.

i love the idea, it would really encourage people to work together more in space you know get people to fight the fighters which i'm going to assume are tier 5 and some more for the gunboats and then a group for the cap ship, kinda like the vette mission but bigger and better.

Wow, this is really intriguing. I always hoped for something like this. It's well worked as though it dosent attack until provoked. Too bad noone will use this idea. But it would be amazing.
