I had heard once that the third tier skill boxes in imperial navy were unlocked by doing a mission each box... is that true? If so how difficult are the missions?

It means that the mission has several sub missions and that at that point, you have finished one and need to complete the next part before you can say the mission is over. Always wait a minute or two after you get a mission complete message before assuming its ok to land.

Thanks in advance.
You must be a member of Storm Squadron. I have been trying to do the first Tier III mission for a while. 4 attempts so far. Each time..after I retake the ship in part 2 and part 3 starts....the second escort....it ALWAYS fly through a squadron of 3-4 tier IV ships that aren't part of the mission. They waste me on what I assume is the last part. This is nuts.
I know 4 attempts doesn't seem like a lot but each PART takes a goor 45 minutes and I have been through the first 2 parts 4 times.....so 6 hours trying to do one mission.

I believe I've got fairly good equipment most is level 5... I just got my rear end handed to me after spending about an hour on the first mission. Am I doing something wrong? how many missions are there by the way? because if they're all as crazy long and difficult as this one I'd rather just build the experience on my own... but I'm guessing that's not an option right?

Okay.... I've tried this first mission 2 times now with a friend who is at the exact same point skill level wise as me. Both times we get to the point where we have to report to somewhere for a data transfer (it seems very much like it could be the end of the mission) and then boom we're surrounded by tier four stuff my shields go and we both die.
Do the missions after this one get harder and even more time consuming? What should I do to beat this mission? This one guy in the previous post said he soloed it... which I'm finding harder to believe by the momment.
Thanks in advance.

You CAN solo this mission, I just did tonight after spending every night this week working on it. The key for me was to just stay away from the tier IV fighters. Sometimes, they will attack your frieghter. And if the frieghter hypers out while they are attacking it, they attack you instead. After SO many times of doing this mission, I got the timing right and just flew about 2000k away from the frieghter and other enemies when it was about to hyper out. The frieghter can handle itself for a couple of minutes anyway. It was escorting the third frieghter that always killed me. When you see tier IV fighters in the way, just remain out of their range (about 2000k).
Then at the end of the mission, when you have to transfer the data...just dock with the shuttle and forget about the A-wings! Hopefully, you'll have good enough shields to stand a couple of hits. Cause as soon as the data is transfered, mission complete. One time, as I was doing the docking operation there, the A-wings disabled my engines! Had to eject, what a shame.
I do feel like this mission was meant to be played with a friend. It's way too hard for single player, and so many people have had trouble with it.
