Thread: Still waiting...
I think the problem is that SoE got raided by a bunch of commandos last night and all the devs wereshot with rocket launchers, at range 0.0.
Seriously, it looks as if someone pulled the plug on posting the dev responses after the commando one got posted and the s*&^ hit the fan.
"Looking into it."
"The LLC is meant to be used at extreme close range to balance their extreme damage from their special maneuvers."
"We're investigating that."
"We're investigating that too."
"Did we already say we're investigating this?"
What floors me is that it took them two-plus weeks for a turn around on these canned answers. I'm not exactly optimistic about what we're about to hear, assuming we hear it at all.
C'mon Kevin, what's so hard about cutting and pasting a boilerplate answer?

Obviously, the Dev's Investigation tree is broken too.
They should.. umm... investigate that.
Well, hopefully it's delayed cause the fit hit the shan for Commando's, and they are working on real answers.
Sadly I think it's more likely that they are getting lazy. Looking at the most recent post from Q in the combat correspondent thread, it looks like today the Crafters will get there responses, tomarrow the Medics, and we won't get our stuff till Friday ![]()
I think the same thing that happened in EQ will eventually happen here. At first, we could post our concerns on our classes and such. Then, on day, we all went to the boards, and the boards were gone, all of them, with a nice note from the head correspondant that it took too much "work and space" to maintain the boards. Since then, there was no way to even contact the devs or report issues or concerns, except to /feedback or /bug and hope it got looked into.
I am hoping that we don't get the canned answers or the bend-over-and-take-it-with-a-smile type replies the commandos got. According to Varv1, we were suppose to "be pleased" with the answers we would be getting....
But expect a nerf on the boards here in about 6-12 months when the devs finally get tired of having to give us an answer.
Honestly, you guys are ridiculous.
I would stop talking to me too if I were being so focking demanding. Yeah, you have a right to table complaints and suggestions. Yeah, they should give us some feedback as to what they plan to do about our issues. But honestly, I don't understand what they can do, short of hiring more developers. (Which would be an idiotic idea this far into any development project.) They have limited resources for the fixes at hand. I'm sure that the design team has been downsized due to the fact that the game has already been launched. Now, if you've ever even READ about the way game development goes, you'll know that most of these changes won't go through the devs first, but through designers, who will then look at THE ENTIRE GAME, and try to figure out any possible drawbacks the suggestions would have on the rest of the game.
This means that they've got a downsized team working to satisfy EVERY PLAYER IN EVERY PROFESSION. Not only that, but they've got the developers already working on the patch that's rolling out today, which has NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL OF THESE SUGGESTIONS. So they're already overextended, having to manage their time between working on completely new functionality and content, while also dealing with bug fixes (which can be HELL. Nothing sucks more than coming in in the morning, and seeing that there have been a couple THOUSAND bugs reported in ONE PIECE OF A GAME ALONE).
Not only this, but they have the hotfixes to worry about. You know, the ones where one guy can do something and potentially crash the entire galaxy/server, or the exploit that lets some guy go from a new character to Master BH in 20 minutes, or the kid who figures out just how to get his permissions to allow the /godmode command to work for him.
Come on guys, seriously... When they say "We're looking into it" It's the same thing as them rambling on about their feelings about the suggestion, except it will keep them from actually working on anything to have to waste the time wording their responses in a way that won't piss anyone off. They're not politicians, they're programmers. Hell, half of them probably don't even like sunlight, let alone coming up with interesting ways to talk explain their ideas with people.
Now, you can say "They shouldn't have released the game if things were broken"... To that I say " HA!" What would you have done if a week before release, they said "Sorry guys, we have to postpone it again, we're still not ready. It's not PERFECT yet."
You can't say that to gamers. Most of us are too immature to understand that. Beside, with such a dynamic environment as a MMOG, players EXPECT a certain amount of amorphism in the game, so hotfixes, and class changes, and tweaks are expected.
Yes, some things are broken, and yes, somethings won't be dealt with right away, but honestly, the only thing that will EVER push a development team into silence is having to deal with a user base that doesn't seem to grasp the concept that in order to execute the changes successfully takes serious time, consideration, and effort. Hell, most of these people probably have families, friends, and lives that are getting SERIOUSLY NEGLECTED because of this project. While neglecting the rest of your life for this game might be OK for you, I guarantee it isn't fun for these guys, yet they do it anyway, because THEY WANT US TO BE HAPPY.
Take it as a compliment or something. Seriously. They're working hard. It's THE HARDEST segment of software to work in. Believe me. I've written multi-million dollar applications for multiple fortune and global 500 companies, and honestly, they're a LOT MORE UNDERSTANDING than a bunch of kids who plunk down 50 bucks for a game.
Give it a rest. They will do what they can, and they will only give up if there is NO POSITIVE FEEDBACK. It's only human.
I didn't read your whole thing, but pretty much got the jist of it.
I could really care less what the answers are, as long as they give them to us as promised. That is all most of us are looking for, not for a "well, yeah, we goofed on that one and will have it fixed right away!" but some sort of acknowledgement that they have at least looked at our concerns.
Let me give you an IRL thing here. I work for a company that has a very big incompetency when it comes to communications. Last month they were running a promotion, and they didn't send us reps out a notice on it. Next thing you know, we have customers calling in about the promotion, and we are transferring them to a different department thinking it was something they should have taken care of, and they had no clue either. So, we ended up going through most of the day clueless as to this promotion running because we were not informed of it. Talk about looking stupid to our customers. And this isn't a one time thing. When they decide to change our schedules, they wait until friday to tell us of schedule changes that will start on Sunday (yes, we work 7 days a week.)
So, I deal with incompetence all day at work. I am not complaining that the game has bugs in it upon release, I expect that to happen. I do, however, expect that if they say "tell us what problems do you have, and we will give you answers to them, " that they keep up with this. Much like my customers expect me to keep up with what I say I will do if I tell them I will do somethiing.
It is called good customer care.
Well, my point is that if they come back and say "Oh, well thanks. We didn't notice that, and will consider it" or they say "Hey, did you try doing this? This is the way it's SUPPOSED to be used", these are valid answers. Most of them are just normal guys/chicks who like gaming as much or more than you and I, and can't possibly know about every fluke and flaw they've got in the system. Since they don't know about them, then there's a very high likelihood that we were the first people to bring these things to their attention. If this is the case, they are probably looking into the issues, hoping to figure out a good way around them.
If they're looking into the problems, then "We're looking into it" is a pretty honest answer if you ask me. My issue is with people who are already bloodthirsty over issues that can't possibly be fixed yet, and can't be satisfied by the devs saying "Oh wow, good catch, we'll get working on that as soon as we possibly can". Which to me implicitly includes the possibility that some other issue could sit before it in priority, but the issue has been acknowledged and is now in the queue of things for the designers and developers to work on.
