Are there any delivery type missions to level up a bit. I just have the basic fighter and am overmatched every fighting mission. I just want to get up a class to do some of the quests (like syren) w/o getting shot down each time. Are there modifications I should be making to the ship? Thanks for any help.

The only way to gain Space exp is fighting, that is why it is called space combat exp and this kind of exp you need for all the grind, hence you MUST fight... no choice...

You can upgrade your ship though, the standard prototype fighter you get when starting a pilot is sufficient for the entire tier1 grind...

You can find relatively easy enemies in Tatooine space, it has mostly tier1 tier2 enemies, If you get up further you can buy new ships, new equipment (or use looted equipment or have the looted stuff reverse engineered by a shipwright to enhance it).

When I grinded my first pilot i went all the way with only the stuff i looted and the chassis i bought (or build myself).

One thing to do is stay in a simple system like Tatoo or Naboo. Don't take a mission just find a spot that has 3-4 Tier1 fighters. Fly in and take care of them, but mark that spot with a waypoint, and hang out there. Shortly more will fly in. Repeat this a few times until you're getting the feel of things or you feel its boring you. Use your radar and ' to look around space and maybe find a new spot with a few more ships, or a single tier2 ship. This will help you get the feel for some things, without the increasing pressure of a mission or a steadily more difficult Duty mission.

Once you have the feel of your ship, then worry about upgrading. It's a simple/complex process, that can become all consuming, or you can do "just enough" for your needs. I recommend heading to the Pilot forum and reading the FAQ, and some of the supplemental materials about ship components. It's a complex subject and there's far more than I can cover in pages of text, so I'll just point you to the starting place, and say study a little and come back with more specific questions later.

If you just need to grind xp go to the Dathimor system and kill Corsecs. They are tier 4 and wont agro you until you start firing.
