I'm an imperial Ace Pilot and since becoming an ace I find it almost pointless to go into space. Deep space is the only play that is interesting now as the enemies there are challenging but it's all but empty. There are tons of NPC's but I have never seen another player there. Besides getting loot there seems to be no reason to go into space.

Will there be more content added soon for ace level pilots? More capital ships? Seems like there needs to be a battle going in deep space that can be won/lost if your capital ships are destroyed. But deep space is just full of corvettes, tier 5 spawns, and a rebel space station and imp star destroyer.

Will there eventually be instanced battles that have a purpose?

The only real person or people able to truthfully answer your question will be a Dev or somone working directly on the game itself. If its not official then it doesnt count. period.

As for my opinion. Get to know the other servers, perhaps you'll find one like Bria or Intrepid. They usually have a decent amount of people. Other than that, my other suggestion is roleplaying. While there is a lack of Content, make some up yourself with some friends, if that still doesnt float your boat, play another game Star Wars related.

KOTOR II seems to be fitting the bill very well. PC version is coming in a month.
