Allot of single and multiplayer games are created with an open scripting engine which allows modders to create custom maps, missions and scenarios. One problem that arises with these is that people can use a scripting engine to create "cheats". There is oftentimes allot of "junk" that is created but there are also allot of really high quality content that could be created by players.
This oftentimes expands the longetivity of singleplayer and multip-player (non mmog) games.
The software development community is undergoing a "open source" movement which involves developers creating custom applications during their own time for the benefit of the community. This open source software is shared among developers and users.
I was thinking that SWG could benefit from a "developer's toolkit" which would allow "certified" scriptors to develop content, namely special missions, quests and even space missions for the community. These certified scripters could be managed in a similar way that forum correspondants are managed. They could get feedback from the community on mission ideas and quest ideas and they would have the authorization to get these scripts running on test center. Once a good script is created, the testers could test the scripts and approve them to go live.
I think that if managed properly, the community could provide SWG with allot of creative and well thought out content that would not cost much to SOE and could extend the lifespan of the game. I know that there are plenty of people who would love to contribute ideas and coding for such endeavors and the community would greatly benefit from this as well.

This could be a good change, if of course they manage it like you said.

you say they should do this but how do soe know who will actualy beable to understand the code and capable of making somthing from it? pluss it only takes one person to put the tools somewere and you turn the game into hack city as people can read the code and work out how to use it to their advantage. it works in single player and multiplayer games cause people already use stuff like aim bots so leting them make mods and stuff with the full code wont destroy the game but the day a firm releases the game code to a mmo game that game will become hack city and all the people against cheating online will leave and belive me that would be alot of people.
