Thread: Will our ground skills have no bearing whatsoever on what goes on in space.

Its already been hinted, but I dont think confirmed, that our skills on the ground will have very little bearing on what happens in space.

I personally think this is a bad idea. The space game is twitch based yes, and so its more about your joystick / mouse reflexes than the ground game, but there are some situations I would think ground based skills would be a bonus.

What about medical skills for example? If you were in a ship that got pretty badly messed up, maybe the player would be wounded, and if they have medical skills you should be able to heal yourself in space like in the ground game. Why on earth would you lose that ability in space?

How about a shot up X Wing with a damaged R2 unit? Should a droid engineer be able to fix the droid?

Whats more, by not depending on ground skills in JTL, isnt it a big opportunity missed for increasing demand for certain professions? I mean if a ground based skill was a real help in space, then folks would flock to it. It could be a good way to help out some of the professions. Dunno if theres much use for a politician in space though heh...

Yes, it is true their won't be any advantage with use of ground skills in space. Currently, the devs have said you CAN heal battle fatigue and wounds and such in space, in a YT-1300 of course, this may change in beta though. However, it has a lot been hinted that players could repair the YT-1300 during battle. This is speculation though.(Sources are from the screenin ascreenshot ofthe YT-1300, and the new badge found on the TC Starfighter Engineer).

In space, you are not 'wounded'. You are 'blown up'.

Anyhoo, I don't think that one's ground skills should benefit them at all in space. I'd just love to see how this would work out for Teras Kasi Masters. It'd be kind of hard to knock someone 'down' in space, you think?

Of course, though, Bounty Hunters should receive Bounty Hunter missions, and Smugglers their own missions. I think that's about it for ground-space skill relation.

DE, Medics, and Doctors and such WILL be able to help people that were hurt in space. I DOUBT very much they will be able to acctually heal themselfs in space seeing as you probly won't take damage till your dead so there would be no need. DE's will help supply droids and such and Droid repair kits but again beyond that there probly won't be much to do. Space is not going to be about ground skills at launch, just about Space.

Sure after launch smugglers will get a revamped to have more to do in space and such. But in a twitchy game there just really isn't much to do in space with RPG skills. They could add space mining and such to bring in other skills but stuff like that is a long ways off.

1 question...

How do you reapir a droid in space??? unless you were docked at a space station?

And whats the point of healing yourself if your about to be destroyed in 5 seconds...

i can imagine medics and entertainers in a Multi passenger ship but whats the point of doing all these things in space unless u were on a multi passenger ship. If you are in a dogfight you dont wanna focus on how badly wounded YOU are but how badly damaged your SHIP is

Until they get around to revamping the horribly broken ground game, I'd say it probably will do something like that. I don't think it will be quite like rori, but until they revamp the current system i'm betting that JTL will be alot more..... fun. Wow, there's something you don't think of too often when you think of an mmo.

I for one am planning a huge 24+ hour bender in space for launch day, i see no point to return to the ground, i'll be a space hermit and spend the entrie time chasing around y-wings and x-wings.
