Imagine if you will that you were an employee in a large company. There were 750 other people with your job, in your division. You each have an employee number.

One day the big boss calls you all down to a huge arena stadium that the company had just bought. He tells each and every one of you that you are now elligable for a promotion, but there is a catch. In order to get your promotion you must enter the arena and catch 15 very fast german shepards with your employee number on them. Once you catch one, you must put it into a pin at the edge of the arena.

These animals are all highly trained attack dogspurchased from police K-9 training units.

If at any time you leave the arena before finishing, all of the K-9's that you had cought will be released back into thearena and you must start over.

Before entering the arena you must buy a pair of padded white pants and a padded white shirt for $45. Part of this is to protect you from the dogs, but they also serve another purpose.

Inside the arean there are 75 ex_Navy Seals with high performance paintball guns. These ex_Seals wear a chemical scent that makes the dogs ignore them. If, at anytime, your white uniform get's hit by one of these paintball guns, you must exit the arena. Any K-9's you had cought will be released. You must buy a new $45 suit and start over.

The ex_Seals are allowed to camp the arena entrances, the dogs pins, and the dogs themselvesif they wish.

Additionally, anybody on the Ex_Seal team who gets you will be given your home phone number, and email address just so that they harass you with endless "pwn'd joo" messages.

To add to this, all 750 employees, including you, are given a cheap $5 paintball gun. These do nothing to the ex_Seals or the dogs, but they can be used against all your coworkers, and all of them can use theirs against you. If you get hit by the paintball of a coworker, your dogs will be released, you must leave the arena, pay for another $45 suit, and start over.

Any coworkers who succeeds at their task gets their promotion, and have the option of joining the ex_Seal team complete with anti-dog scent, high performance paintball gun, and address book to record their prey's infromation for harassment. Many who finish the task do this, and this makes the task that much more difficult and frustrating for everybody else.

----------------

While I could enjoy a coorporate paintball arena where everything is just for fun, I would not enjoy the above situation.

While I could enjoy a PvP zone in space where everything is just for fun, I do not think I will enjoy being forced to take tough missions inside PvP zones in order to advance as a pilot.

It sounds like a griefer's paradise and a nightmare for everyone else.

and every one of you that you are now elligable for a promotion, but there is a catch.

=========================================================================

Minor change to your scenario, you are eligable for 37 promotions but you only have to play the catch game if you want one of two of those promotions. You can have the other 35 promotions without haveing to participate.

You are not forced to PvP you are choosing to be Jedi and join PvP or choosing to be Master Pilot and participate in PvP for a short amount of time.

I never said that they were just starting at the company. I said that in order for them to get their promotio nthey had to do this. In that a senior pilot must do difficult missions in a PvP area to advance they are the same.

As long as you must do the tough missions in a PvP area in order to advance to the top of any pilot profession then I, and many others, wil continue to see this as forced PvP to advance.

It will become a problem for the game as larger portions of the players base reach this level and are forced to enter 'griefer land' to master their profession.

This is not just a thing for option_uber_profession_02. This is a thing for all pilot professions. There is no pilot profession you can pick to avoid it. Thus, your Jedi analogy is faulty. On the ground there are many viable combat professions you can master other then Jedi, and on the ground Jedi get a 2nd character slot so they can avoid it too if they want a break. For ALL pilots the only way forward is through griefer land.

That is the issue.
