Thread: If anything, let us hope that this is a lesson learned

Well, what we have on our hands here is pretty much a frustrated mob. People are now looking for any excuse at all to get as pissed off as they can, and I have to admit that I'm a bit frustrated to know that some people are already playing JtL and I -- a pre-ordering Beta tester -- am not.

Oh well. Nothing to be done about this one. All of our anger and ranting is for nothing, when you think about it.

But seriously, I hope SOE and LA take a look at the situation and decide to implement downloadable expansion packs from here on out. Like I said, there's nothing to be done about this time. Done bun can't be undone, as he saying goes. But seriously, how much happier would the player base be if we could have simply gotten an expansion code via email (or even via the order page), and skipped all of this snail-distribution business?

There's no reason it wouldn't work. In fact, many companies have already proven that it does work.

I had it fully installed from Beta Testing... It would have been nice to just goto their store and purchase and key so I could keep playing...

Easier on me.. now I have to go store hopping tomarrow and find 2 copies for both of my characters...

Buying 2 copies really sucks

It seems to be only a handful of folks though. I think someone just screwed up and shipped early.

Here's how I see it, and its only my opinion:

The implied promise of pre-ordering is that the pre-ordering customer gets to the front of the product supply queue (or that at least was my hope -and I suspect the hope of many others). Quite naturally, there is only one way to do this: Put the product into the distribution channel well before the release date, allowing resellers to ship pre-orders so that the customers have them the moment the exspansion officially goes live.

Instead, what we actually have is a "reserved copy" system, whereunless your local reseller is nice enough, you can't go pick up your reserve copy, but instead have to wait for it to be sent to you via snail-mail.

This is doubly ridiculous, since in all likelyhood there is noJTL softwareon the disk at all, and we will all be downloading the game from home.

Not the end of the world - I can wait a few days, and I did have the advantage of being able to beta test. But this distribution scheme wasn't well executed, and I find it fustrating that asa preordering customer,Ifind myself at the back of the line.

And I agree with the poster. Online distribution is THE way.

I'm still confused about the pre-order CD-Key's as well. The game gave me my JTL Pre-Order reward of a flash speeder, but it doesn't know I ordered the game so I won't be able to play it until it gets here several days after release.. lol..

Kinda silly honestly.. But oh well, what can ya do.. Would have been nice since it IS an MMO to get the disk before or at the same time I could buy it in stores.

It's an issue of:

1. Stores ignoring the street date and stocking the item early

2. People who work in said stores and are able to buy a copy early

I think we're getting a little off track here. I'm not dwelling on the issue of people having it already, and the fact that a lot of us don't. I'm not dwelling on the issue of UK players getting it late. I'm simply saying that in the future, downloadable expansions are the way to go.
