ok
so let's start with some facts
- shipping an item from USA to Europe takes between 3 and 7 days, usually
- Euro Release were announced for the 27th or 28th of october
- In order to release it in europe for those dates, the boxes should ship for the worst case 3 days prior the date, best case 7 to 10 days.
- the 26th, TH announced a delay in euro release, well not really a delay he wrote "boxes will be on shelves the 5th" he didn't say "they won't be there until the 5th" but that they "will be there november 5th".
- There are some "serious" rumours about shops that got the boxes today at least in france and germany
- Most retailers never heard about retailing delays
now assumptions
- SOE *might* have shipped the boxes earlier this week if not before last week end
- if the retailers have the boxes today or will have em tomorrow, they'll likely put em for sale today or tomorrow (well it's night here in europe)
- if the retailers don't know about the delay and have the box, they WILL put the boxes for sale if they have em at initial release date
what we need as an input is:
- the reason why the release was delayed
- why, regarding to a "normal" shipping date that might have been around last week (in order to have the boxes in stores for the 27/28th), we only got informed the 26th that the release is delayed, while the decision was most likely made around first planned shipping dates ?
I mean, how come, with the boxes shipping maybe 1 week prior release date, we only got informed the day before release date that the shipping had not occured ? why not the day the boxes were supposed to ship ? or the day after ?
if the release is the 5th, then the box didn't ship, and won't ship til the end of that week probably.
I think euro players deserve some clarification here

I ordered the US version at a german store. Its homepage says the game arrived there today. So the US version was shipped in time.

The main rumour flying around currently isnt regarding shipping of the units....alot of stores in the UK are reporting that the have them in stock.
What seems to have happened is Activision, the UK distributors (I think they distribute to alot of Europe as well) have delayed release of JtL so it does'nt hit the Shelves the same time as GTA:San Andreas.
This is the main rumour flying about, the other is that SOE stopped shipment to Europe of JtL asthe units destined for Europewere needed in the USA as they underestimated demand.
I guess wewill never know, and all I know for sure is that Europeans got the shaft again ............

Handy, seeing as I don't have a PS/2.

Look at your SWG discs. They're labelled blah-blah- UK Rev blah. They keycode begins UK
I doubt that SOE ship anything anywhere, bar the code to the distributor's plants in the US and Europe.

What I'm hearing is that SOE HAVE released the game in Europe,
It's just that Activision have now realized that they dont have enough copies in stock (after initially underestimating demand) and have held up the date while they frantically try to get enough copies to push out to all their stores at the same time ( i.e. 5th Nov )
The other rumour on the same lines, is that they (Activision ) underestimated US demand and have now given the initial batch of Euro copies for sale in the US (so as not to embarrass SOE at home )
Take your pick !!

Copies for Europe will have been printed and distributed in Europe (we get different packaging to our US colleagues). Additionally, while I'm not certain, there may be localised versions for continental Europe - ie the manual in French, German, what-have-you.
Demand is never miscalculated in theMMOG realm - if anything, when it is its only miscalculated upwards. Even if Sony or Activision were concerned about a shortfall in numbers that wouldn't stop them selling what stock they already had.
My suspicion is that Activision, in their infinite wisdom, believe that SWG players are more likely to buy Jump to Lightspeed than San Andreas if both are released on the same day. The fact that there are, at best, 50k subscribers to SWG in Europe, that SWG is PC only while S.Andy is PS only, or that there's a good chance we'd buy both appears to have escaped them.
Getting any kind of comment on this is going to similar to getting blood from a stone for two reasons :
1 - getting comments on a negative aspect of the game is not something the community folks are good at ("Thanks!")
2 - it's Activision who are at fault, and they don't have any representation here.
Of course I may be entirely wrong, but since #1 exists above, I guess we'll never know.
