I now have it confirmed by me!! Yesterday Garva made everyone upset when he said that you would need the CD because it would cause certain things in space to not draw correctly. Well I thought that was silly because I had downloaded everything off of launchpad. So to be on the safe side I inserted the disc into my computer. The JTL install started. ASked me where I wanted to install to. and the Progress window came up. It imediately jumped from 0%-100% and then it was done. To confirm it even more. I checked the folder for size and how many files and it didnt change at all.
So there you go Euros and everyone else wondering. You don't need the stupid CD. Its just for 56k'ers

You don't need the data on the CD, you need the sticker on the back of it with the CD-Key.

Actually, there are 600megs of art assets on the disc. It shortens your download if you add those first.

It may be less painful, but only if you can buy the damn disk anywhere in your country, which much of Europe cannot. The UK release date has been pushed back to the 12th of November, and may slip further to the 19th according to Activision UK(the distributer).
If any UK shipwrights or pilots want to enjoy the game in the near future, the only option is to purchase the Key online and sit through the 2-3 hour download(broadband). I feel really, really sorry for those Europeans who are still stuck on 56k for whatever reason

I couldnt be bothered to wait for 2 hours to download the game data, so i used the CD and it took about 30 seconds.
If I had of known that you didnt need it before then I would of just purchased the Serial from one of the man sites that just sell the serial number.
