Can we? I fired on the "medium freighters", disabled them, but was unable to board via /dock.

Destroying one does not give any XP or credits.

I think the docking function is purely for inspection reasons.

You can't board other ships.

Yes, it is possible, first, disable reactor or engine, inspect ship and if there is any cargo, dock with the ship, its automated process, so you'll see just message like this: Transfer cargo clothing complete. But i've never seen any cargo in my inventory. You may destroy this ship too, you'll get some money, but no XP.
