I have been a pilot for a few hours. Some of the parts I've looted are very good. A friend is a master shipwright, who has amazing tools, crafting station, is in a manufacturing city, and has the best resources ever spawned for shipwright. He tried to match the quality of some of my looted stuff, and couldn't. For instance, the best capacitor he could make (while on crafting food, drink, experimenting on the right stuff, etc) had 1% better recharge rate and 50% worse max energy. Other stats were all worse than my looted part.
I don't mind if people can loot parts better than the best shipwright can ever make, using the best materials ever spawned. But it should be very rare. I've been flying for about 4 hours, and I've already looted 2 parts that the best shipwright on the server can't match. Something needs to change.

Shipwright can outdo looted parts on (in some cases) Mark III parts, and Mark IV part and above.

And of course he can use those looted parts to make even better ones by reverse engineering...

A 1 star for that? Shipwrights should be able to out-do almost all looted parts. There's always been a desire to have the crafters be useful - for them to make quality parts. So something is off here. Either the shipwrights should be able to make better low-tier parts, or the looted stuff shouldn't be quite so powerful.
I'm fine with people being able to loot uber stuff. But it shouldn't happen twice in 4 hours to a noob pilot like me. Should take weeks and a lot of luck to loot something so powerful that the best crafter can't match it...

There's the real beauty of shipwright. ![]()
It would be nice, though, if shipwright could temporarily learn the part for an 8-10 runoff.

There was a 1 star troll lurking in the forums earlier. I wouldn't be surprised if he returned. I agree with you though. I think that a Master Shipwright should always make better items than those looted. Especially those looted by rookie pilots.

It's also cool that shipwrights can take looted stuff and make it more powerful. But unless the crafted parts are better than basic looted parts, why would a shipwright ever craft a component? I'm sure the intent was for shipwright to be more useful than just making chassis blueprints, missiles, and reworking looted parts.

Its nice to have it that way, you can just destroy every single CDEF weapon or stone knife you loot. I never found a weapon or armor in the game and thought "niceI will use it". I think shipwrights will get enough business with the chassis and the reengineering. I am happy that I now can use things I loot, thats more rewarding and motivating. I understand that crafters would like to make money but that also takes away a lot of fun for the others. I like the player driven economywe have, but on the other side I hate it that I never (play since 9 month) found a single weapon that I could use, not even as novice marksman, that makes it kind of boring -> grind money, visit weaponsmith no suprises by looting something. I know that some uber weapons can be looted, but never found one.

WEll. like I said, in time, when pilots begin to make their way through the upper tiers to master, that's when shipwrights will be more needed. Right now, the loot is there wo we have good parts to use as pilots. Then, as more and more shipwrights master their profession, the upper level components will need to be tweaked and made for Tier 4/Master pilots, especially as the PvP zones begin to fill.

The other thing to think about is that some of the items require new resources that just started spawning. The "Best" a server has ever seen might be only 25% of maximum possible right now, so saying that your master shipwright friend has the best resources available doesn't really apply currently. A month or so from now, once resources have shifted a few times, things will improve.
