Forgive me if I'm too stupid to find the obvious, but I've looked around the board a bit to find some sort of guide or explanation as to what parts are good to throw on your ship and what parts aren't (or what might be better than another). Has anyone thrown together any early guides yet or are there any places round the forums to look? It seems some stats you're looking for lower = better and others higher = better. Again, sorry if this was asked 300 times already....I looked, I really did!! :-P

I have been looking for a guide of some sort as well.
My inventory is overflowing with ship parts.
Its a bit confusing thoguh when a Level 2 ship component seems to have some better stats than a Level 3 version.
I would like to know basically, what are the important stats to look for in each ship component.
JTL has been available for a few weeks now, i think this would be usefull to a lot of people.
thanks

For most components mass and energy drain are the only important figures. A lower level component can easily be better than a higher one, but hit points and armor of parts usually rise from level to level. For me, I stick to what's light in weight and reactor drain even if it means low hit points on the Capacitor, the Reactor and the Engine. The mass I save there can insted be used for heavier armour and guns. On the capacitor two other values are important, max energy to weapons, and the recharge rate, the higher the better.
A lot of time, it's about finding the balance that works for your style and ship. Today I got a new reactor to be able to use three heavy guns on my Kimogila. That still meant something had to go. I sacrificed my chaff launcherand instead rely on boosting away, and the strength of the shields and armour.
On shields and armor, before the recent AI changeI put my best armour in the rear, and also saw to it thatthat my shield was better in the rear. Now with the more jousting style a more even, or even frontheavy set up is better. As you'll see below, I haven't changed it yet, mostly because I've yet to get a new shield that's better, and because I've not yet had a shot damage my armour since the change.
What loot is good to save? Well, in order to have really good equipment (I've looted everything I use on my ship except the new reactor) you can have parts reverse engineered. For that you will need the number of same type items from the same manufactureras the level of the item. So 4 level 4 kuat reactors will result in one level 4 kuat reactor with the best value of all four. If you don't have the patience sell the stuff you don't need on a bazaar, or to a shipwright. Keep items that are better than your current that you can't put on your ship because of mass limitations or skill limitation if you're not already in the top ship of your faction.
As a start why don't we write down our current setups, that will help anyone that's starting on aguide? I dont remember the mass and detailsof every item, but of the 88000 I can get onto my ship 80000 are filled.
Reactor: 14100 energy, 8000 mass.
Capacitor: 904 capacity.
Shields: 600front, 700 in back.
Armour: Front 450. Rear 550.
Weapons: 3 weapons doing 1500-2500, energy drain 1400-2000, total mass about 33k, of which one weapon is 16k.
Booster: Mass about 1500, energy drain about the same, max booster speed 22.5.
