why cant we fly from system to system ourselves, we have to use lightspeed, i dont see why that isnt allowed.

Because at sub-light speed it would take years to fly from system to system, it would be very very very very boring....

but if u want to put in the time you should be able to, or at least make the zones in space bigger. Seems the faster i go the sooner i run out of room

Ok, he said years, meaning light years. If you wanted to travel to another system without lightspeed, your grand-children will have to finish your mission long after you're dead.

it isn't possible, each system is on a different server that has different configurations I suppose, but I do agreein that Iwish each zone was bigger. I wonder how long we will have to wait until we don't see loading screens anymore hehe.

ya maybe system to system travel is far fetched but ya, they need to make zones much bigger, the faster you are the sooner u run out of room

Because the game would be discontinued due to age before you reached another planet. Hell, the closest system to Earth is 4.35 lightyears away, and most of the systems we fly to and from in Jump to Lightspeed are much, MUCH farther than that. But let's assume, for a moment, that you only had to travel one lightyear. Let's also assume you had a fast ship, with a top speed of 1200 (1,200 kilometers per hour). 1 lightyear = 9,460,528,404,846 kilometers, so the trip would take roughly:

7,883,773,670.705 Hours
328490569.613 Days
899974.163 Years

Pick whichever unit of measurement you like.

I'm sure thye would like to as well. But, if they did, you think lag is bad now?? You would prefer this lag over what it wouldbe if they increased the size, as it wouldn't make sense to just increase the size without adding content.

the only lag ive seen in space is when i have nebula density up all the way and im inside it, besides that i dont get any lag, do any of u ?

I haven't had a problem with lag in space, on TC it never will be a problem but, I mean even on Chimaera I have not had any problems with it in space.

I can't see how an increase in size would lead to much more lag apart from server side, in that case they should have enough resources to fix that problem by improving server performance. Yes that costs money but we aren't playing for free.

The problem with increasing the size, really, is the third dimension. Galaxies ground works on two dimensions. X and Y. Sure, there is height, to a point, but all it really is is a landscape slope, so at anyone time, you're only on one plane of dimension Z (bases and buildings excluded, of course). So, for example, if you madea ground based zone that was 40 kilometers on one side, it would be a 1600 kilometer zone, and the system would have to keep track of everything happening within a 1600 kilometer field of activity. If you made a 40 kilometer zone in SPACE, because there is a third dimension, it would be a 64,000 kilometer zone, and the system would abruptly have a stroke just trying to think about it all at once.

Of course, these numbers are arbitrary, but I selected them to prove my point. Space zones are limited in size because of the third dimension, which allows for far more "volume" that needs to be maintained.

there has to be a way to alter that though, wouldn't you think so, without a downside.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure they can develop a VR space that requires any that wishes to play to have to buy $16,000 VR setups, and $150 a month to play.

The downside is not necessarily SOE, but the players' computers, and then the extra cost per month to playon higher grade server clusters.
