The freelance pilot class as a whole seems to be a little underpowered. The ships really don't compare to their counterparts in the Rebellion and Empire, they don't get a two-person ship at all, the ship that was supposed to be their 'Ace in the Hole', the Firespray, is available to everyone now, their special command to call in allies brings pirates that attack them as often as anything else, their one droid program series (Reactor Overload) doesn't seem to do anything, and they don't even get a cool flightsuit from their trainer.

Well, you get a nice bandolier that acts as a backpack from the trainer. Which doesnt look as cool but is more functional than the rebel or imperial novice rewards.
As for the ships. They are actually pretty maneuverable and Freelance ships have more chassis hit points than imperial or rebel ships of similar tiers.
All that said, the big problem is mass for privateer ships. Their ships are pretty middle of the road handling wise or lacking in mass(or both). But, this can be compensated for somewhat with reactor overload. Using that droid command a freelance pilot can shove an underpowered reactor into their ship(thus saving a lot of space) then run with it overloaded it so it can fully power everything.
Also the master level ships(YT-1300 and Firespray obviously) are equal to their counterparts in the other master boxes. Still, they don't have quite the same perks as the rebel or imperial sides ship wise. But thats just one of those risk versus reward things that has to be there to help give incentive to taking part in the GCW.

They do have more guns then the Empire it seems....
.... they'll just have a hard time aiming it at the TIEs behind them.
