Thread: Where is our HAM display in space?

Ok, in the gound game I like seeing my HAM bars displayed so I know when I'm taking damage and how much I'm taking. It would be nice to see it in space too. I'm just wondering if there IS one and I just haven't found it yet or maybe I'm bugged and can't see it on my screen.

I have seen the icons at the upper right of the screen which gives percentages. And thats not bad, but they don't stay open. they only seem to open when I'm very low or at zero. I can click on them and they open and show me the 100% number but then they retract again. And during combat, there just IS no time to be clicking on other places on the screen. Your HAM readout should be available and onscreen at ALL times.

I've resorted to using a macro that targets myself so I can see if anything is getting low (mostly shields).

How do the rest of you guys deal with this? Or is it not a problem for you?

The targeting reticle shows armor and shield status, the blue outer arc is the shilds and the red iner ones are the armor.

I'm not sure about an actual ham type display but I do know on the radar it will show you shield status and armor status. When your components start taking damage they will auto expand out and show the new "health" level. I would like to know how to target yourself though so you can see that semi-ham bar that you see when you first launch into space.

ctrl+1 or ctrl + ` will target yourself, cant remember which one. You can bind to your joystick

During beta, we all screamed for HAM bars, but the circles work just fine once you get used to them.

Ooooh so THAT's what I should be watching. Doh! (smacks forehead) Thanks guys. Its a shame though that we can't relate to it the same way as we do the ground game. Our enemies have a HAM bar like ours so its easy to relate what we're doing to them with whats happening with us. For space, we get number percentages for our enemies.

Actually, I like the display like Wing Commander had. they had a wireframe of their ship and the various parts would change colors as you damaged it. That was righteous and felt accurate. I guess this will take some getting used to.

Again, thanks for clearing this up.

Yeah I was doing that till I made a macro on my F5 key to target myself and remapped my TAB targetting to be the right mouse button.

Now I just hit F5 then right click when I'm done looking at my health percentages. Now I just need to get used to the color thingies on the radar.
