I thought that if you were a covert reb on the ground you would not be able to do the imp pilot line.
I only mention this as a saw a covert reb with the title (imperial pilot initiate) running around Cnet on the eclipse server

As a rebel doing rebel missions, I gain rebel faction, but I do not loose imp faction, so I guess this person will not be affecting their rebel faction.
I remember reading in beta that there would be no relationship between faction in space and on the ground. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
This is sort of born out by the fact that I have -5000 corsec ground faction, but I was able to become a corsec pilot and do missions for them (I have sinced resigned and joined the rebels).

In beta it was possible, but in live you cannot, or shouldn't be able tobe Rebel on the Ground and Imperial in space or vice versa.I rememberpatchnotes from beta that stated they did away with it, so I think it shouldn't be possible. Perhaps there is a bugthat leads to anexploit allowing this, or perhaps it is just the title bug at works again. The guy could have been imperial pilot before he was rebel, put the title up, didn't like being an imperial and quit the Imperial Navy. Then he might havejoined the Rebel Alliance while the old title still sticks from the title bug.
