This is tangentially related to the TEF discussion going on now.

I have JTL and use my Yacht to avoid the shuttles. I was in beta and when I learned how factions were handled in space I was totally turned off and haven't played it at all.

My understanding is that its possible for rebel and imperial players to work together against a common non reb/imp faction mob, while being in canonical ships like the X-Wing and Tie Fighter. For me, thatseeing that would ruin any fun in space, because it ceases being star wars. But it has occured to me that I haven't really played JTL enough to know for sure this is possible and to what extent in practice you actually see this happening.

Could a JTL veteran comment on this?

This happened to me the other day. I was flying around taking out targets of opertunity when I get an invite. I thought it was a rookie pilot that needed some help so i accepted,I allways do. Low and behold it was a wimp (or sorry Empiral) tie. I was very uncomfortable as said above, I quickly made an excuse to be elsewhere. I was amazed someone could mistake an A-Wing as a pirate (or sorry Privateer). But on hind site maybe I should have encourged 'em to defect, ya never know

I don't think your factional RPG fears should keep you grounded. I understand what you are saying about rebs and imps potentially fighting together against a non aligned foe. Yes this is possible, but with three master pilots and millions of pilot and prestige xp I have only seen this happen once. The pilots in this one incident were also feeling a little funny about this as flying beside a Tie fighter while you are in an X-wing is an odd feeling. I don't think this is an issue, I think it may happen very very rarely as i've had hours upon hours in space only to see this once. A side note is that when you are in deepspace or declared in kessel this scenario is impossible, it's every faction for themselves and when you get some enemies up there in deepspace it is a lovely place.
