Thread: Ship Components Questions?

I'm looking to do some upgrading but I am at a point where you must sacrifice one thing for another...ie lower total energy in a capacitor for higher recharge rate..etc.

So my question is this..on capacitors recharge rate, is a higher or lower number better? (ie does a recharge rate of 23.5 beat a 20.1? or is it the lower number the faster the recharge).

pretty much same question when it comes to refire rate on weapons and recharge on shields..

my capacitor has about 800 total energy and a recharge of like 23..or 28..I forget without going in game...I'm looking to upgrade it but I can't find anything with more energy (at least that I can use) but I can find ones with varying recharge rates..both higher and lower numbered then my current and I'm unsure as to which is better....same deal for weapons and shields...

thanks in advance.

Get an ok recharge rate and a high energy storage. You can boost the recharge rate with Capacitor Overload, and the Weapon Overload program will also lower the evergy use per shot of the wepons as well as boost the weapon damage. the higher Cap energy will help you when you use Capacitor to shield shunt. With the Cap. Overload in place you can give your shields a bigger boost of energy in a pinch.

^thank you, I'll do that.

but honestly it still doesn't answer my questions Though I appreciate the responce...

is a higher or lower number better for recharge rates (on capacitors and shields) and which is better for refire (for weapons)...

That's what I'm still not sure on..

The higher number is better for the recharge rate on capacitors and shields. The lower number is better on the refire rate of wepons.

For a weapons capicator you want a high a recharge rate as you can get. The recharge rates you are looking for should be around 30 for the Mark I, 40 for the mark II, 45 - 50 for Mark III, 50+ for the mark IV, and 60 or so for the Mark V.

Dont focus to much on the total energy. That will be increased when you use weapons capicator overcharge. Unless you have a lot of high energy per shot weapons, you will hardly ever see your weapons cap go down.

Weapons- you want a low number for the refire rate.

Shields- High number for the recharge rate. However cap to shield shunt makes this kind of irrellivent if you have a good weaponscap.

I personally look for higher capacitor energy first, and regen rate second. Running Capacitor Overload 3 will raise the recharge rate to more than enough even if it's only in the mid 30s. What I want is a capacitor with 2k+ energy with the overload, so I have more to dump into my shields. I find that MK3 crafted capacitors with the Heavy Battery enhancement work the best. To answer your other question, higher recharge rate = faster recharge.

The same is true of shields. Higher recharge rate = faster recharge.

On weapons, the lower refire rate is better than the higher one, and on droid interfaces, the lower command speed is better than the higher one. Look for a lightweight looted DI with a command speed below 20. You can usually find some in themid teens with decent mass around 5k. Don't spend any more mass than that on a DI.

another question...weapons.

it's damage ratings...

what does the vs shield, vs armor numbers mean..

ie...

Damage: 800-1000
vs shields: 0.500
vs armor: 0.500

and is the above better than;

Damage: 300-700
vs shields: 0.900
vs armor: 0.400

(just examples)

I would think the first is better as it does more "damage"....but what are the "vs armor/shield" numbers?

What about droid interface?

Higher or lower?

People have answered what is better, but not explained why:

The vs ratings on a weapon are a multiplier, so that means higher is better.

The speed on a droid interface is the amount of time before the next command, so lower is better.

The recharge on caps and shields is the amount of points regained per tick, so higher is better.

The refire rate on a weapon is the amount of time before the next shot, so lower is better.

A few more hints:

Higher cert level does not guarantee a better part. Look carefully at the stats, and look at what your needs are, find the lowest mass that can fill your needs.

Using a large 14k reactor when you only need 10k power is a waste of several thousand units of mass, for example.

Buying a heavy crafted capacitor for a single weapon ship is also a waste.

Learn about Reverse Engineering and how it can get you great parts. If you have two loot caps, one with high energy and one with high recharge, you could get them combined into a new capacitor with the best stats of each.

Don't forget too that you can up your reactor power with Capacitor Overload. I run Engine Overload 3, Reactor Overload (or is it Overcharge?) 3, Capacitor Overload 3, and (when I'm getting into a big fight, if not I don't bother with it) Weapon Overload 3, and get along fine without needing to overload my ship with high-mass items. Well, all high-mass items...good weapons and shields are essential, to me.
