Hi,
Just got JTLS and joined the Imperial Navy.
I really really want a TIE Interceptor so I'm working towards that 3rd skill box on the left (equipment) that allows me to fly one.
So, my question is that I now am a pilot with boxes 1-1-0-0 and I can see my exp is now at 12k or so... so I qualify for another tier 1 box...
However, there isn't even an experience meter for the second tier...
I have tier 1 equipment, why won't it allow me to work towards tier 2?

Because piloting is a tiered profession. You must complete all of tier1 before you are sent to your next trainer for tier2.

just when I think, "finally! a part of an MMOG that I can play casually! I just need to get my TIE Interceptor then I can just enjoy JTLS casually the rest of the way!" then I hear this...

The first 3 tiers is not very grind like. Tier 1, you can get most of the xp just doing the missions. If not, go up with a friend, they can disable ships for you and you get full xp for the kill if you shoot it once. Tier 2 is a bit of a grind. Not too bad though. Tier 3 requires 0xp to level up. Just complete the mission and you get the skills. Tier 4 is the real grind. 1mil xp per box.

The only real grinding in Space is tier 4, where you grind 4 million exp, wich can be done in 2days with ease
Mastering a pilot is not hard. being a goodone is harder ^_^

Yeah, I thought that too when I first started playing JTL.
Its a shame, because the only 2 boxes your interested in is ships & components, the other two (i find) are novelties rather than essentials.
The other thing I found quite lame, was that the first 3 ships you get as an imperial navy pilot, are virtually the same! First you get the light duty TIE fighter, then the normal TIE fighter, and then the TIE/IN, which is the same as the regular TIE fighter but with a nice purple tint..
