I am a noob, just please forgive me here. I have read the posts all about droids and stuff but still can't get this thing to work. Let me run down the steps I did one by one and hopefully someone will see where I went wrong. (I am going from memory here so some of my terminology may be incorrect)

1. I looted a droid interface and put it in my Ywing LP (I'm not sure of the cert or lvl)

2. I bought a blank memory chip and programmed it by sliding the commands from the left side of the screen to the right. The commands I moved are like "increase shields rear moderate" "increase shields rear light", "increase shields front light", "return normal shields" etc. Then I hit commit.

3. I bought an R5 Droid. I tried to by a generic one. I saw combat droids and medical ones, I tried not to get those. The R5 Droid had some commands built in like "patrol" "follow" (the others I don't remember)

4. From my Data Pad I move the memory chip over the R5 droid. (Nothing really seems to happen). The memory chip stays in the data pad.

5. I think I open the radial dial on my R5 and it looks like the commands from the memory chip are in there. I hit commit button. I get "No changes have been made to your droid" I think, well they must be in there.

6. I go to Manage my Y wing LP...Droid Interface is loaded, I load my R5 droid (I do notice that after loading the droid the letters turn RED...once they were white (I don't remember when)

7. I launch in space. My droid beeps and boops. I go to Ctrl A, I click on the Astromech Tab, Nothing is listed, it is completely blank.

Other things I have seen...I go to my data pad, click on R5 and I don't see the Astromech commands listed...then sometimes I do...

It is all very confusing...what am I missing here. And yes I have read the forums on droid interfaces etc. but haven't seen anything on this. My memory chip seems to have plenty of room. Could it be my R5 has other commands listed? (but sometimes I see the commands from the memory chip listed). One helper thought my R5 is bugged.

Appreciate any help...thanks...

The only time you need unprogrammed droid chips is when you are putting in programs you don't know. (in your case Freelancer Programs and Imperial Programs)

All you should have to do to program it with rebel commands is load it into your data pad, then use the radial menu to select Program droid. The programs listed to the left ARE NOT loaded, those are programs you know because of the astromech certifications. Select the programs you want to load and move them to the right. You'll see a green meter start to go up that represents the amount of room available and how much space is already taken up.

After all the programs are listed on the right hit commit and it will load them. Note that you can load every program but it will only load those that will fit in the space and it won't give you an error if one does not, it will just not load it.

ok I'm a real noob...I didn't know you had to buy an Astromech droid...the droid I bought was preprogrammed. So I went to the bizzaar during my lunch break and found a lvl 1 Astromech droid...my only problem...he only can hold 2 commands.....bahhh!

I was wondering that myself. I've always used Flight Computers so I didn't know for sure if you needed something called an astromech or if any RX droid was an astromech droid.
