I've been inspired by the new capital ship video. I had an idea like this before but just tossed it around as something cool, but realized now it could probably be much more - having seen what the devs have done with both this capital ship idea, and also the addition of Kashyyyk which is a planet but operates unlike any other planet in the game.

What I am proposing is a way to make JTL almost as content-enriched as the ground game. Currently, this has proved difficult to do because of the nature of space and how the game has evolved, but with recent events I think this is much more possible. Everything we've seen so far is just simple variations of the same old missions - destroy and escort. The places where we do this maybe have slightly different decor, but other than that there's no real variation.

I'm proposing a JTL equivalent of the dungeons and themeparks we have on the ground. We're getting close now. There's a station in Kash space you can attack and then board for a ground assault. When this new corvette mission is released we'll have another similar one. But why stop there?

Think of a hollow asteroid that we could fly into. Someone mentioned adding Alderaan as a space sector. Alderaan space could be so chocked full of debris as to make a direct line to a waypoint impossible, but you might have to navigate a labyrinth of huge asteroids. The planet's core could still be present in one form or another. Remains of cities still attacked to their land masses.

Instanced space dungeons could be another possibility. Not normal sectors, but these would be generated for the group to travel to. In these dungeons, obstacles could be damaging to a ship, environments could wreak havoc with ship equipment. Combo quests that require both space and landing. Miniature planets with no shuttle travel that can only be accessed from space.

Now for a couple ideas for other quests and concepts that I came up with...

  • Why stop at asteroid mining? How about nebula gas?

  • A rescue mission of a disabled ship inside the accretion disc of one of the Maw black holes.

  • Science outpost orbiting a star

  • A superdense nebula or a strange magnetic storm that wreaks havoc with ship systems, potentially leaving pilots lost without a guide.

  • The interior of a gas giant

  • Flying into an asteroid inhabited by one of those giant space eel things (like the one that tried to eat the Milennium Falcon) and landing inside the creature. Unique crafting resources could be harvested here while under attack by mutant vynocks and who knows what else. But if you disturb the monster, you only have a short time to escape or your ship will be swallowed and anything you gathered would be lost.

All of these quests provide the potential for loot items that are of use for the ground game, further integrating the two different games. Again, please add ideas & post comments.

One thing they could feasibly do that would help is instanced group missions. No reason that you can't get a solo or group mission on the ground or in space, then use a hyperspace launch to an instanced "waypoint" out in the middle of space somewhere for yourself or your group.

Have the mission begin at a certain set time after the first ship enters the space zone instance.

This would allow for some interesting mission possibilities. I seem to remember a lot of missions in XvT and Alliance that involved capital ship convoys that could be inspected, attacked, harrassed, etc. We need missions to attack Strike Cruisers, Dreadnaughts, inspect smuggler convoys or Imperial fleets, rescue troubled ally ships, etc so that we feel like there's more to space than just the current included zones.

There also needs to be at least one major non-instance space zone with a huge space station and supporting weapon platforms. Make it so that it is factionally owned and that a large group of fighters can hit and destory its platforms and then it, then make the spacestation respawn within 24 hours factionally linked to the side that took it down. Make it invulnerable for at least 72 hours following that, and then allow for the other faction to have a go at it. Have the gun platforms guarding high quality mining resources (minerals/gas) in space and the station itself providing lucrative reward missons to pilots in the sector while it belongs to their faction. This would give some further GCW feeling in space. It would have to be a full overt zone though, imo.

Not bad ideas. Personally, I'd like to see in space battlefields. Not like deep space like we have now, but having acutal NPC capital ships broadsiding each other and bombing each other with their fighter squads. Say the battle cycle lasted for 2 hours, at which point one side with the most ships still intact and with their capital ship(s) in the best condition, wins. If players don't come to help, then the battle ends in a stalemate. Provided we had a star destroyer there, it'd be far more difficult to kill than the one in deep space (i.e., not soloable). But it would be possible to artificially end the battle before the time runs out by killing all of the opposing sides ships (which would have to be difficult). After that, you get fp and maybe some creds and your side patrols the sector until the battle timer expires and another opposing fleet arrives.

I'd also like to see something like a player capital ship pvp zone, basically, more than anything else, a place where players with their crewed cap ships can come to compete with each other and blow each other up.

Cool idea with the capital ships fighting each other. This wouldn't even have to be a 'battlefield' (devs said these might not come back anytime soon even on the ground) but a space version of theX vs. Y POI's we have on the ground.

Squadron Commands for Master Pilots. Similar to Squad Leader on the ground, so it can boost a wingmate's shield, or top speed, or maybe increase their weapon speed. Could be incorporated into a "Ship Commander" prof, for master pilots, suggested by another forumite on the cap. ship thread. I.E. when they implement Cap. Ships, add a new Prof which allows you to command the vessels, with different boxes for gunnery skills, communications, targeting, helm etc. Maybe.

good job on that grandmoff Been talking about anthoer Pilot profession above master pilot since seeing the vette video from fanfest..

This is a really good idea, everyone that i've talk to seems to think so too.If vettes can be player owned, this is a great way to do it ..Make the master box of new pilot profession-so that u can pilot a Vette, and the rest of boxs below it..ahve some coo faction ships "bigger pob style ones"than nova,yt1300..

And this would also open more to stuff to be build by SW's too.And even armorsmiths, weapons smiths could have more stuff..Pilot armor,Pilot sidearms weapons" if we can really board ships to take them over,or help someone off the ship..what ever it maybe"

the below is just something i think would be neat..I dont really think it will happen..but its still neat

I would like to see a space zone for Guild space stations.that u can dock and board with....but i think the guild should have to have a certian amount of members to get one.......All guild members can store X amount of things on them, parts, ammo"space stuff".

and the only way for somone out of the guildto board it,would be to be on same ship with guild member of spacestation

This zone could be used for PvP too...attacking other guilds station your at war with butall guild stations haveauto turrets on them....maybe a way of getting a email saying your guild stations is under attack..

If u blow it up,U get a ton of prest points "maybe one day this can be used for something better than just going to deep space"

hmm..maybe this is way out there to be really done LOL
