Thread: Tell me again why we don't have laser convergence in this game?
I agree, this is a rediculous lapse of judgment on the devs part to not implement such a thing in a space combat game.
In fact, right off the bat I can think of an immersive and practical way to implement it. There could be new droid chips called "Auto convergence" "10m convergance" "20m convergence" "no convergence (default)" and so forth which would do exactly what their name says. You would load them onto your droid and when you execute the droid command in space the lasers would adjust for the specified distance.
I get the feeling that the devs don't want to go out of their way for this though

It would be way to easy then and tie fighter's or any small ship would be going down all over the place in a blaze of cannon fodder glory as they once did back in the good ole days of X-wing or the Tie Fighter games.
WTH?
The only X-wing series game to have convergence was "X-Wing Alliance". the others didnt have it.
If you cant hit other ships while flying an X-wing, then you need far more training. The X-wing is the single best fighter in the game. Theres nothing it cant do, and if you know what your doing you can land all your lasers on target in an X-wing. Its actually impossible to miss in an X-wing.....unless you purposely do it.

I agree, i dont know what they where thinking when they designed JtL but just wait for our local "ace" fanbois to mob this thread and talk about how great jtl is and how it doesnt need convergence. They Seriously need to play XvT and see what a real Star Wars space sim is suppose to be.
I'm one of those local "ace" fanboys. I don't see the need for convergence. If you hit with the guns on the left, full damage. If you hit with the guns on the right, full damage. If you hit with both guns, same damage as just leftor right. I've played all the lucasarts sims andI've played all the Wing Commanders, like them a lot. JTL feels a lot like Wing Commander so I'm pretty happy the way it is. Most of the other "ace" fanboys have a similar background of multiple space sims, all including the lucasarts ones.

It's been ages since I've played XvT, X-Wing, and TIE Fighter, but I'm fairly certain they all featured laser convergence at a predifined distance from the spacecraft. XWA was the first in the series to feature convergence that you could adjust.

For the record: I do 100% of my flying in an heavy-x with Weapon Overload 4 (cap empty in 8 shots) and it takes me 45 minutes to finish the reb tier 4 BS destroy duty (100 tier 4 ships). So convergence really isn't an issue for me.

You mentioned another cop-out commited by the JTL devs. Each laser should be apply damage separately, not as a single unit. This is why it's impossible to unlink our fire.
Anyway, what you are talking about does little to address the problem. It doesn't matter if you have 50 lasers flying out of your ship, if none of them fly towards the spot you are aiming at then you can forget about hitting your target (unless you make some unusual aiming compensations which shouldn't be required for a pilot in the Star Wars universe).
And BTW, I have played all the lucasarts sims as well so I know what I (should) be capable of. I haven't played the Wing Commander games though, maybe that's where the problem is since JTL is designed by the same team who made those games, lol.
