Is asteroid mining profitable? How much can you make in a day or two?
Is it hard to get into the business?

Find a local shipwright and offer your services. They'll jump at the offer. Usually you can make between 20 and 60 CPU, so lots of cash to be made.
Easy to get into in that you just have to do a few of the mining quests from ROTW and you get fitted out with free mining gear, and a Y-8 at the end.

who or what is the ROTW i would search for it but the search function is broken (again)

You can only mine asteroid resources if you have the expansion enabled on that account. Quests start from the big tree-cantina outside the starport, guy by the name of Flash Harrison.
