To get into the kessel system, I believe it depends on which faction you fly for. Anyway, for Freelance (and Imperial I think) fly to the Datooine system. There you will find on your navigation map the space station called something like Last Nav. Fly out to that space station and talk to it. The station operator will ask if you want to go to Kessel, or Deep Space. Kessel, anybody can enter. Deep Space, only Masters can enter. You need 30000 Pilot Prestige to get there, and it uses that prestige up. Just be careful, when you enter deepspace, you have to declare your faction. It is NOT FRIENDLY there. The nice thing is, any damage you take will be repaired for free, with no degradation to your components. To leave those systems, hyperspace out, or get shot up. 
For rebel pilots, I think the space station is in Lok system, or more likely the Dathomir system. Just hop out there and look for the space station.

The first person to reply is incorrect about where the space stations are. To get into deep space or kessel, you have to go to the right station, and each faction goes to a different one.
Imperial Pilots: Endor
Rebel Pilots: Dantooine
Privateers: Dathomir

Also note that the Privateer one changes if you are declared overt. For example,I'm aSmuggler's Alliance pilot, and normallyI go to the Last Nav station in Dathomir in order to enter Kessel or Deep Space, however ifI go to an Imperial station first and declare as overt, so that I can earn FP,I will then have to go to the Imperial Claw Station in Endor if I want to head to Kessel. Ifyou try to talk to the normal Nuetral station while declared they tell you they don't talk to Imps. (Note: Because of this it is impossible to go to Deep Space as a Nuetral while already declared, since in order to access Deep Space from the Imp Claw Station you need 30000 Imperial Prestige Points, which Freelancers can't earn.)
