A quick question. I haven't seen the information anywhere else really. Most of the community sites are still working on their JTL pages. I just finished my last mission (taking out the TIE veteran commander) and was able to train a skill box. I didn't have all the experience I needed for that box, but I got it regardless. Now I ran through one of the duty missions for a little while and am getting my xp up. Will I basically be filling all the rest ofmy tier 1 skills with xp now? (I'm 0-1-0-0) Or will there be more missions? Since it is mission/story based, I didn't expect to find much in the manual.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, once you finish the set missions, you can gather the rest of your XP freeform, or you can chose to take an ongoing mission, where waves of enemies will appear (ie, you finish one wave, you get a waypoint to another wave, finish that, get a third waypoint, etc). You can keep doing this until you have all of your XP, or you get bored. The best part about this type of patrol mission is that you get to keep all the XP to yourself, as your mission targets cannot be fired upon by others. Also, for completing waves, you get a cash reward as well as the potential for loot. And then, once in a while, they'll send a pro after you, which will give you evenmore XP. I had a blast seeing how many waves I could get through.

So far I have only finished Tier 2 so I don't know if there are any addition 'freebie' boxes. So far it has only been the first set of missions that gives a free box. The rest are XP based (though you have to complete each additional set of missions to go onto the next tier in addition to getting the XP)

I Too, experienced this,
Background, Privateer, RSF, 2 2 2 2, 150,000 XP
talking to third trainer, finished a mission, he asked if I wanted training..Got 2 3 2 2, no xp loss, still at 150k Might be a bonus for doing your missions, or keeping you up to par to finish them..

I *think* you get a tier 1 skill, a tier 3, and master for completing the missions regardless of your xp.

I thought it was stated in another thread that all the tier 3 skills were mission rewards and didn't require any exp point to train them.

Thisis very odd...i got no free teir 1 skills but THREE free teir 3's...not complaining though
