Thread: Good grief

In the days of the development of Star Wars Galaxies, it has been one of the main focuses of the Developers at SOE and LucasArts to do their best to prevent griefing among the players of the game. Griefing is the intentional ruining of someone's playing experience through using the game systems in a manner they are not meant to be used. To combat this, they have instituted, I think, an excellent system of consenting PvP. Each player has the option to PvP or to stay PvE and this is a good thing. This keeps PvP griefing to a minimum and is especially good for those who stick to the crafting and entertainment professions. Consentual PvP is a good thing in SWG.

There is, however, a different kind of griefing that I want to discuss here. This is in regards to the Galactic Civil War.

In the timeframe that this game is set, the rebels are on the run, before and after Hoth. While the Empire constantly hunts them down, the Rebels launch countless hit and fade missions on soft, medium, and some hard targets of the Empire. They are like jabs from a boxer, taking the life out slowly, preparing for the big right handed finish. In Star Wars Galaxies, we are at war. The Empire is oppressing the people, or so the Rebellion says, and this Alliance is fighting withits little store ofresources and large intelligence and ideals, while the Empire attempts to quell the Rebellion with might and numbers. Through this struggle, the Rebel'smain way tofight is to give the Empire grief.

This is one thing I think needs to be accurately portrayed in the missions and battles faced in the Space Expansion. Rebel pilots should be engaged in hit and fade, surgical strike, and "grief giving" type missions. Imperials need to feel hassled by the Rebel's presence, not unconcerned by it. I would envision, as an example,a Rebel strike team hypering in,strafing an Imperial supply platform just asan Imperial patrol was reaching the outside of the system. The patrol'sStar Destroyer and fighters have to turn around and head all the way back to the base. Just astheycome into range, the Rebel Strike force turns and hyper's out of the system, leaving the Imperials frustrated. This not only causes Imperial players to get miffed and to really want to take down rebels, but also to make a Galactic Civil War more like the movies/books/X-wing games. There needs to be a reason for Faction fighting. Right now, it is made up. Imps and Rebels are against each other because continuity says so. Through giving the Rebelsa hassling-type mission system, emotions of anger or frustration over Rebel doingscan be used to draw out a desire to fight, one faction against another. This should be reflected in space and will lead to a more immersive and passionate Galactic Civil War.

my idea would be maybe to have "PVP" missions where at a certain time of the day imps escort supplies and rebs raid them... if more supplies are safely transported for that month then imps get some sorft of bonus for the next month and vise versa

better yet make it so the opposite faction also gets a negitive, and their could possibly be dif types of these throughout the week other then the transport, so that its not boreing, perhaps make it so its like an arc quest only pvp based and static, who ever wins it gets a bonus for that next month and then it resets... since its arc you could get dif out comes each time, since its static you only have to program it once makeing there be more of an abillity for it to be elaberate...i also think this should not effect other servers and should not be "vote" based... also maybe the dif outcomes will make for dif rewards at the end, i think this would be very interesting, i hope the devs read this!

I think also there is an issue that I didn't address in regards to the Imperials. Just as the Rebels would be hitting and fading in their strikes, the Imperials should be right there with swift and severe retribution. The hammer should fall on those involved with the Rebellion. This may be reflected in the upcoming GCW revamp.

That RGI is sure one warped little ship, had one lined up for a certain kill shot at least 10 times and not one hit.

Now why don't they fix stuff instead of dumping more crap on us?

Because if they only fixed stuff and didn't put any new content in things might get boring quickly?
Just playing devil's advocate, I have no idea...

ROTW was pushed out prematurely to match the DVD release of the Original Trilogy, there was a time constraint. The result is the unpolished quality of ROTW content.

I'd much rather they take a year or more to overhaul to maximize what is already in the game, fix everything as best they can, then deal with expansions. But thats just me.

Of course...another approach would be to follow the money. More content = More $$$

AKA Marketing Dept. =
