Thread: Player City Starports

Hi all, i think that would be a great thing for player cities. It would bring more business to vendors if they didnt have to wait to hop another shuttle, and bring in more revenue for the city itself. I see no reason why if a player city gets to a certain population that should not be an available tool to use. Just looking for added thoughts on this....

I disagree. Static cities are deserted enough as it is right now, particularly in medical centers and cantinas anywhere but in Theed and Coronet. I think shuttle ports are enough for player cities as it stands now - I don't think we should segment the population even more.

Devs have repeatedly said no. I think it is a programming issue to have 60-80 additional starports per server.

However, what I think would be interesting

Allow the every player who is a citizen to vote for 1 player city to be given starport abilities. Talk about giving politicians something to do. Alliances, dirty politics, vote swapping, city rivalry.....

Or just make it so that the player city with the largest population gets a starport. Not nearly as exciting but would create a dynamic element to cities.

I also disagree, if starports were given to player cities, then there is almost no point to go to a static city again. I find places like Coronet to be great for getting buffs and other activities. I can see the benefits to having player city starports, but there are consequences.

just thinking one day, maybe it's just me, but i think it would be a great idea to have something the equivalent of a starport in player cities for only player ships to launch from. maybe call it a docking bay or something? anyone else think this is a good idea or am i just crazy?

I think it would be a great Idea. Limit it to sufficiently large cities, and make it a master Archy item to produce. But people have been asking about player starports since player cities were announced. I doubt they will be put in anytime soon

It sure would be nice, but as a mayor and pilot myself i can say this:

When it comes to player cities, there are far more serious matters to attend to.

Take a look in the politician forum.

how about a spaceport for player cities that have been metropolis for at least 12 consecutive months? if your city drops below metropolis you lose the starport and need to reach and maintain metropolis for 12 months to get it back again - that should keep the numbers relatively low and may then appease the devs enough.

It would be even more cool if you can place a 1 lot landing pad for your multiperson ship (the hip itself should cost 0 lots but can't hold any items without a pad). If you land on the planet you placed the pad on, you can land directly on the pad and the ship will stand there like a player house.

make it expensive in terms of building and maintenance, and allow the owner to launch into space form there with ANY vehicle he has parked over any city of this planet. launching from there may even cost extra money (replacing the shuttlefee to get to your ship, but you don't lose time traveling).

I personally love this idea. The one thing that may prevent it from happening in the near future is that when you land, your ship is parked at that starport. Let's say you land at a player city/starport. Your ship is then parked there. What happens if the mayor removes the starport? What happens to your ship?

It may be that your ship gets towed to an NPC starport. Would their be any want to grief players? Let's say in an Imp city and some rebels land their ships there to raid the city. The mayor runs over and pulls up the shuttleport/starport. Would this be considered griefing? Another alternative would be to not allow the mayor to pull it up if there are ships parked there or you have to be granted landing rights just like zoning rights to be able to land there. Another option would be allow only citizens to use the starport. Have a type of privacy option on the startport: if public anyone can use it (merchant city) or private so only citizens or authorized people can use it (faction cities, etc).

Just some thoughts. Maybe if we can hammer out all of these details and present a solid working plan they will listen and do it.

I know you have to be a certain level city to have a shuttle port. It would be neat to add in player city starports if the city reaches a certain level. Of course this needs to be managable per planet, only allow a certain number of city starports per planet. It would be nice to fly into your home town instead of having to shuttle there or bike it there.
