Dont flame me... please dont
Just 1 star me and go away
Anyways, to the point. About an hour ago I decided it might be fun to try out some space PVP, im wasnt too bothered about if I died or anything like that, I just wanted to try it out.
So, 5 minutes later, im overt and heading to Kessel
First of all, I start going through the different targets by pressing T... looking for the nearest player. I cycle through a few times and discover only NPC Ties, not too much of a problem I thought... its to be expected, afterall 'Space PVP is dead' (Quoted from plenty of people on my server).
Beep - A blip on my radar, ahhh! A player... a player with an oppressor called pointy thing... strange I think
Anyways, the games afoot is my first thought, but then something happened.
Its a bit of a blurr, but what I THINK happened, is that he flew down from above at me, and missed, turned and hit me once... and I blew up?
Is this a bug? Or does this guy have some kinda uber weapon? Or is it meant to be one hit kills?
Oh well, thanks for any replies

yeah, sounds like that to me to.. some kind of missle. Missles in space PvP is pretty lame right now since there's no way to see the missle and avoid or track it on radar and avoid it.. that's something that needs to be fixed

Yea space pvp is rally no compitation, just the luck of the first shot. As far as missiles, to meit seems my counter measures work quite well. When i get the tone that some one has a lock, I fire off a cm, and make a sharp fast turn, up down left or right doesn't matter. Sometimes I fly in 3rd person mode, I have seen my cm's take out a missile before. Sometimes I even fire off 2 cm's for good measure

/sigh... when will people learn.. its not just luck of hte first shot.. people actually know how to dodge shots on the head to head pass... there is a lot of skill involved in a dogfight...

Ahhh my "point, counter point" friend, I knew you would show up, and no matter how many time we have this discussion we will allway keep our own oppions. Remember I am the one that know's how and when to useevasive manuvers. Anyway how goes it mate

I must be pretty lucky. I've only died once in my last 30 kills. That's including one on one battles, a one on four (had to run after taking down one of them), a few 10 on 10s, one 30 on 30. My ship must be hammered out of horseshoes and carpeted in rabbits' feet because that's an awful lot of getting lucky with the first shot.
PVP seems like one-shot kills a lot of the time, but if you mess around with it some, you'll find it's more like 2-5--which doesn't sound like a lot, but when you really start to get into it, those extra couple hits will end up making a huge difference. I advise trying not to get too impatient with it at the start and remember the #1 key about PVP in space: your first priority isn't to shoot him, but to avoid getting shot.
It can be a ton of fun once you start to figure it out, and it isn't nearly so arbitrary and based on luck as many people say.

I agree with you 100%, I have also played all the old x vrs tie game's, freelancer, and just about every other flight and space sim out there (I predict BattleStar Galactica will come out with one soon, real space flight physics wooot). But do you guys remember the first x vrs tie, back when the printed good manuals. They had this nice picture of the "wonton weave (tm)". The trick is to fly the wonton weave and still light up your target. To many times pilots get to cought up in trying to kill kill kill, but sometimes ya gotta break and evade. As you stated this is especally important in pvp, where predicting what your enemy is gonna do comes from experence not memorizing the ai moves.

Headbone here,
Yeah, my experience as a pvp pilot, don't stop turning, i fly anA wing in pvp with engine overload 3 so not much is gonna out manuver me. Unfortuantley, player sheilds suck compared to npc sheilds. It is more realisitic in how fast the players die but again, not many imps show up to deep space /sigh
. It is really about getting those first 3 or 4 shots in though, missles are a waste unless you're at a clear disadvantage, i'll save mine for the vette thanks.
