Thread: Astromech Question

I see we have an entire column of skills dedicated to using astromechs, yet there is no intuitive process to know what exactly to do with them. I have tried putting droids into the ship, I have purchased memory bank droid control devices. I have read the manual, I have looked through FAQs (the few there are so far), and I have clicked, dragged, and dropped until my fingers are numb and have no idea:

1. What an astromech is useful for.

2. How to make it useful.

3. Where to go to learn how to make it useful.

Can somebody either point me in the right direction, or offer some tips on exactly what this is all about?

1 Get an unprogramed memory module.

2 click and hold on it until the program option appears, select it.

3 a menu of commands you know are listed, selct one.

4 your module is now programed, click and hold on it again until the transfer to data pad option appears, select it.

5. take out your droid and open the data storage, open your datapad, then click and drag the program from your datapad to the droid data storage.

6. install the droid in your ship

7. take off

8 once in flight select abilities (ctlr-a) under the astromech tab you will see the prgrams which you installed in your droid, you can now put them in your toolbar like any other command.

I know it is a pain...

I thank you for the feedback. I'm stuck at the first part.

I have a "Memory Bank Droid Control Device". It is now in my datapad. The only radial option other than examine or destroy is a 3rd option to "Access the Flight-Computer core storage unit. If I do that option it opens up a container window with a capcity of 0/40 and no other commands or information.

I have a "droid interface" in my inventory with the following options: examine, drop, destroy, repair - kit 1, repair - full.

Is there something else to purchase to make all of these things work together?

You can load any program you 'know' into any Droid or FC that you own. You can not, though, turn a loaded program into a disk. Burned chips are one time use items. Once loaded they are gone and the program can only be deleted.

I am making regular R2 astromech droids to stock my vendor. I used two lvl 2 data storage modules thinking that I would get a lvl 4 astromech, but I am getting a lvl 5 astromech certification. Any ideas why this is happening? I have used this combination in the past and made lvl 4 astromechs.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Are you experimenting with the data modules, because if you are you could be pushing one up to a lvl3 or the combined rating of both up to lvl5. Try creating to lvl2 modules without experimentation a see that you get a lvl4 astromech. You may have not had the same stats and or the materials you are using are better now so you can do it.

I've found that you can experiment on the data modules to around 50% (little over) and not risk pushing the module up a certification.
