Thread: Frustrated thoughts of a JTL newb OR How to make missions feel special

So I bite the bullet and get the JTL/ROTW download.

The most glaring annoyance, like with the rest of the game, is how I get a mission to go out, check an area, kill a handful of guys to achieve mission done and then I get to move onto my next mission... which is the same as the last one. Not only do I get to do the same mission, I get to fly back to the planet I started out from, goto the cantina to talk to the trainer guy and then run back to the spaceport. Talk about wasting my time!

This may have been discussed to death already, but like I said above, I'm a JTL newb and also a paying subscriber so I feel I should say my shtick and move along...

Here is a thought that I had on how to make JTL missions instantly more interesting and reduce the running around downtime:

Get a mission, from a Rebel/Freelance/Imperial. To pick an example off the top of my head lets start with one I did today. Go check out smuggler route waypoints.

Old n Busted: I hit up the nearest waypoint and get engaged by some Black Sun. I shoot them dead, the other waypoints disappear, I head back to Tat. Oh freakin' boy.

New Hotness: One of the Black Sun pilots scoots off into Hyperspace. I get an option to follow on his last known coords so I do. I exit hyperspace not really knowing which way he went, but soon find I'm in Rori space. Black Sun guy taunts me over communication channels or something. I blow him up. Find a data disc that has a waypoint for Rori, land, goto the coords get into a fight with a cpl a dudes, get some gnarly ship part or credits off them or something.

And that's just quick off the top of my head. You could string events together for as long or as short as you want, after each big event make it optional to continue so that players have the ability to cut out if they have to quit or whatever.

That's just thought on how you could possibly make it feel like less of the same.

Your first missions are designed to be dull. They aren't there to entertain you, they exist to teach you the basics of battle in JtL. Later missions will be more interesting, but only after you have learned to fly.

I've played the X-Wing/TIE games and was addicted to flight sims in years passed, I know how to fly. I use the mouse mode now because the joystick I bought sucks. I got use to mouse flight playing Freelancer. The "dull" missions make me not want to keep going. What kind of thinking is that? "Let's bore them outta their skulls, that will keep them around!"

The first few missions are dull any easy because you are being TRAINED. Meaning you piloting skills on yourself as the player on the keyboard are being trained. I seen n00bz unable to do the first mission cuz they got themselves gunned down by the first three tier1 fighters!

There´s many people out there that are good in space imediatly, but there´s also many people who have no concept of flying at all and NEED those dull starting missions just to get the hang of it at all...

As SWG(JTL/ROTW) is free for everyone to play, SoE must make the missions in ways that everyone can get them finished, that includes space rul0rz and total spacen00bzall the same.

It maybe boring at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it those missions are over so fast that you wont worry anymore.

There´s no other proffesion so easily mastered as the pilot proffesion is

Congrats. You know how to fly. A lot of people who got JtL didn't play flight sims before JtL. I didn't. The first missions teach you the basics. That's what they're for. You know how to fly. Good. Then just go do them. I can run through all of tier 1 in a starter ship in about an hour, and that's including all the lag and such involved in launching, landing, running through stupidly packed towns, and repeating this over and over. It's not a big deal.

i disagree that pilot is the easiest proffession to master. Certainly not for imps that r storm squadron or black epilson. Its praticly impossible to do those alone and its getting increasingly harder to find an ace pilot willing to go up in space to help you
